The Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima has ordered the immediate dismissal of 18 local officials, including subdistrict heads, village chiefs, territorial defence volunteers and local administrative officers, for involvement in drug trafficking.

Governor Chaiwat Chuenkosum, joined by Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Administrative Organisation President Yollada Wongsuphasawat, Provincial Police Commander Pol Maj Gen Phairoj Khunmuen and representatives from security agencies, announced the crackdown under the campaign “No Drugs, No Dealer”.

The operation, carried out between 12–13 August across 13 districts, targeted 395 suspected dealers and resulted in sweeping raids in key areas including Muang, Sikhio, Pak Thong Chai, Bua Yai, Phimai, Dan Khun Thot, Ban Lueam, Prathai, Kaeng Sanam Nang, Non Daeng, Muang Yang, Bua Lai, Sida and Chum Phuang.

The 18 dismissed officials comprise seven subdistrict or village leaders, two members of the Volunteer Defence Corps (Or Sor), and nine officers from local administrative organisations (Or Bor Tor). “No exceptions have been made,” Chaiwat stressed, confirming that the order took effect immediately.

The raids also identified 8,376 drug users, who have now been sent for rehabilitation. In addition, 740 dealers have been arrested, with warrants issued for a further 23 suspects, 13 of them from Dan Khun Thot district, who remain at large.

The Provincial Administrative Organisation has provided 20,000 methamphetamine urine test kits and 2,000 ketamine detection kits to support the campaign. Chaiwat thanked residents for their cooperation in supplying accurate intelligence, enabling law enforcement to make the arrests.

Authorities are also tackling related social problems, with 370 psychiatric patients identified as needing continuous monitoring to prevent relapse into drug use. Under a “one-to-one” supervision system, officials will ensure patients take their medication and can reintegrate safely into society.

Pol Maj Gen Phairoj said public tip-offs had led to successful action against 80% of known drug-linked individuals in the province. He reassured the public that whistleblowers’ identities would be protected and warned that any police officers found involved in drugs would face immediate dismissal. In the past year, two police officers have already been sacked for such offences.

I guess they have to start with arrests... that would mean police involvement.

They may have some sticky fingers in the mix too, blind eyes must be paid

It seems common in Thailand not to arrest drug traffickers if they are rich or work for the government. One even became a member of parliament after serving his term.

To use an old British Army phrase 'No names, no pack drill"
