We are subject to mental conditionong. So perfectly natural for you to think that.

But illnesses don't just happen. There are reasons why we get sick. And those reasons are quite limited, depending a great deal on environment, lifestyle and diet. There is also the medicine factor. What were the medical procedures growing up?

Brain exorcise, reading, physical exorcise, healthy diet, cut back on alcohol, better options also many foods and supplements now recommended for dimentia

Change your diet better than taking meds.

30 years ago I went to a Dr and after the tests it was determined I had a high cholesterol level. The Dr, of course, said I should fix my diet and get more exercise. I was in the gym 3 or 4 times a week and eating well at the time. I almost had to yell at him to get a statin prescribed. If I had listened to the Dr and did nothing I'm sure I would be dead by now...

BTW this we are nature - nature is us stuff has been around for a long time. AI quickie:

Christian Science is a religion and system of healing founded by Mary Baker Eddy in the late 19th century. It is based on the belief that spiritual healing can be achieved through prayer and a deeper understanding of God, as revealed in the Bible. Key to their beliefs is the idea that sickness is a mental error, not a physical condition, and can be overcome through spiritual means.

-- I walked by the local Christian Science church each day on the way to grade school

We seem - certainly in the west - to have taken nature for granted. Nature is everything. Everything we enjoy; a car, a tele, a house etc, comes from nature. We are as much a part of nature as a lizard or a flower.

Our body is nature and can heal itself. But it must be at one with nature to do so. We are the earth. The earth is us.

Fresh air, clean water, nutritious food and an appreciation of nature will see us blossom as individuals. But it we are to fulfill our true destiny - as a species - we must act now and not foul and destroy our future.

Man has the power. We are the earth. We are nature. Without nature we are nothing. We must learn to love and respect nature. Learn to love ourselves. We must join together in a beautiful orchestra to fulfill our destiny. We have a golden opportunity right now. If we do not grasp it, there may not be another for a 100 years.

Our destiny is within us. Nature is essential in that concept.

Part of why I married her. But so your posts to stay on topic, maybe this forum should be renamed the Health, Medicine, and Anti-Medicine forum

and I'm considering doing that without a doctor's advice.

This is a bit of a can of worms topic.

Metformin is a very common med for people with Type 2 (not Type 1) diabetes.

I don't have such a diagnosis though I suspect possibly pre-diabetes which I do plan to get screened for medically first which of course would also be a screening for Type 2.

That said, based on reading I have done recently Metformin seems to be very promising for off label purposes. A number of them including prevention of dementia.

Being in Thailand, I don't expect a doctor here would usually suggest this. As I'm not aware of much in the way of downsides of taking it as a non-diabetic, I am strongly considering taking it anyway as it can be bought without a scrip here.

Obviously if diagnosed with Type 2 I would follow a doctor's treatment plan which would likely include Metformin anyway. If diagnosed with pre-diabetes even more reason to take it than no diagnosis. But again I'm considering taking it without any such diagnoses.

I'm not going to post links about this but if you're interested this info is widely available.

Try IF(16:8) along with low carb/low sugar diet and daily exercise.

Does intermittent fasting require (as per above) that you be at one with nature?

Been on it for years. Changed my life. So cheap to buy over the counter here. The gas and bloating and loose stools no big deal. Did a lot of burping. But that’s passed now. Helps keep the weight and bsl down too.

According to Peter Attia, latest study shows no longevity improvement, in fact slightly detrimental. I took it for about 3 years, but have since stopped.

As noted in other comments, the drug seems to have anti-ageing properties. I understand this is now subject to scientific tests to see if the effect is statistically significant. Unfortunately, it seems you have to take 4 times the normal dose.

Why would anyone want  the GI issues that accompany  metformin? Diarrhea, gas, bloating are not desirable. Nor are the other issues like low blood pressure and fainting. Metformin will not prevent dementia, which can have multiple causes. Ozempic was a wonder drug too until the side effects started to appear.

Why would anyone want  the GI issues that accompany  metformin? Diarrhea, gas, bloating are not desirable.  Am 85 and took Metformin for at least 25 years with none of the afore mentioned side effects.  However, I was recently laten off of it as it was causing increased levels of acidity in my blood.  Where are you located?  I can recommend a very good cardio/internal medicine doctor at BNH in Bangkok.

I read that it’s contraindicated if you have kidney disease or alcoholism.

I know people who have taken aspirin as a precaution against cardiovascular disorders, not sure about its effectiveness, as the ones I knew died of other causes. But it was prescribed because of heart conditions.

If you want to try a drug without prescription then it’s a risk that you seem willing to take.

I hope it’s benefits outweigh any side effects!

I am a Type 2 diabetic. When I was diagnosed 31 years ago, I was prescribed Metformin. It did not agree with me and it gave me Bangkok Belly (the sh..ts).

My doctor advised I started injecting insulin every day - which I continue to do to this very day!)

Took it for 15 years for type 2 but recently moved on to Mounjaro.  No side effect with ether one.
