  • Film that resonated with me in my youth I suppose.   For examples, O Lucky Man, Greaser's Palace, Take the Money and Run, and Fellini's Satyricon.

  • I have only read the book 30 years ago or so, and it became my life, but its not over yet. Great inspiration The Alchemist by Paulo Choelo   Now the movie is out, we will see if I still have

Ok I'll play nice.

Journey To The Center Of The Earth which is saw with my Mom in 1959.  My cousin came too but mum had to call her sister to come pick him up as the movie scared him silly.  Still one of my favorites ever though it's wayyyyyyy dated.

Next - Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb which I watched in the base movie theater on a Strategic Air Command base in 1964.  Needless to say the B-52 and KC-97 crews where whooping it up and having a great time.

Then, Lord Of The Rings trilogy.  I probably watch that ever 5 years as well as rereading the books, which I've done a whole lot of times, and they simply never get old. It's quintessential "Good vs Evil." The Hobbit trilogy was Ok but just not the same caliber.  The Rings Of Power is just woke pablum.  It has potential, but it will never go anywhere other than the dustbin of film history.

Then of course, Fight Club.  The author, Chuck Palahniuk, was born where I used to live.  Where he got the inspiration to write Fight Club out in the freaking wheat fields, high-desert, and radioactivity of Eastern Washington and the Hanford Nuclear site is beyond me.  But there ya go...

Because gamblers and boxers are cool.

You might like this one.

The odd couple and Rocky

Because I watched it on the couch with my beloved Mama, and the other, well, it's boxers.

"Secrets and Lies" starring Brenda Blethyn.

"On Rotten TomatoesPassengers holds an approval rating of 30% based on 287 reviews, with an average rating of 5/10. The website's critical consensus reads: "Passengers proves Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence work well together–and that even their chemistry isn't enough to overcome a fatally flawed story."[43] On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 41 out of 100, based on 48 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews."[44] Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "B" on an A+ to F scale, while PostTrak reported filmgoers gave it a 77% overall positive score.[42]"

But I didn't watch it, mostly stick to movies of the last century.

Yes, the "fatally flawed story" alluded to above is the fem's bone of contention. The female character ends up not raising the flag of female victimhood. Enough of a spoiler.

I have read many statements which you have submitted concerning growing up on the poor side of the tracks.

Yet, you have, so far, never provided any incontrovertible evidence of this.

OTHER than the Fact that you say you were once a chimney sweep, clambering around on the slate roofs of the rich,....

On the Main Line.

Do tell.

I am very interested in reading more of your stories about slate roof repair in Gladwyne and Bryn Mawr.

I've done houses like that, and on main line, well, no as fancy, but damn rich folks.  5 different 'set's of flues.  One with slate roof & wet to top it off.   Had rope strung along in case I started sliding away.  Scared the sh!t out of me, but great money day.   Only thing worse, is wet wood slats :w00t:

Was focusing my business up to the Poconos instead, for a future move, that never came about.   Land I bought, house next door had a bad survey, and part of his house & septic tank were on my land.  So to make things easy, just sold it to him.

Breaking Away is close to my youth, without the sporting event (cycling).

When I state the other side of the tracks, that's literally what I mean.   Penn Central (4 lines + metroliner) was <100 meters from the house.   Great for hitting Philly, Uni & S. St for happy hours.

I know that I would finally get a rise out of you....

Once I had mentioned chimney sweeps.

Those were good days, and you must admit this, in hindsight.

I would have made a career out of sweeping, if the dust didn't cause, not linked to, cause cancer.   I used to wear a vapor mask, and still would blow my nose, and the tissues would be gray.  Tell me again how those med masks will stop a virus :cheesy:

Started sweeping & RE at the same, so went with RE.  Slum lord was less work, once units were rehabbed.  3 houses ( 5 units ) and the rest is history.  Easy retirement.

Hindsight and back to 20 yrs old again, and I don't think I'd change a thing.  OK, extra cash into BitCoin, MS, Yahoo, Google, Tesla :cheesy:

Your experience reminds me, EXACTLY, of what I experienced in Taipei....in the 1980s....

The Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorite movies to watch multi times, But as far as the 'resonates' part this stays with me full time:

Looks like a good film. Though I loathe that Mark Wahlberg.

The magnificent 7 and Love Story.

One to give you strength, and the other to....make you cry.

You know there is some poor week souls out there who gives you a thumbs down in this tread.

Oh my, I feel so sorry for you to be so provoked to give me a thumbs down. Life can not be easy on you

I hope you got someone who prays for your soul

You need to block out the 'noise' when you post on here.

Can be a minefield.

Thanks. I didn't even know they made a film based on that book. I will need to watch it and finally read that book.

Guy sold millions of copies of those books back in the day. Cult classic.

Not sure about my life, but think I just entered 'The Mist', Stephen King movie ... :w00t:
