Mail delivery issues in Huai Yai?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I recently moved to Huai Yai and I was wondering if anyone else is having problems with the mail service here. Do you actually receive letters? It seems like I’m not getting anything at all.

The latest issue was with a registered letter that is now being sent back. I realized too late, but I never even found a slip/notice to be able to pick it up at the post office.

The postman maybe wants a "formal introduction" with some 0's printed on the bill.

This happens, not only in Huay Yai. Which sorting office does your mail go through? I sent the Mrs to go complain, in my case to the place on Sawang Fah in Banglamung. Got mail regular for a while after that. They seem to have a lackadaisical attitude to it,

Not a single overseas letter arrived in the first 5 months of the year. Then, one fine day in June, 12 letters all arrived on the same day. Posting dates varied from early January to mid-March, and they were sent via four different European mail services (postnl, Royal Mail, whatever the Swedish service is called and Jersey Post). They included the DWP PoL certificate which arrived 23 weeks after it was sent, so my UK pension was stopped, and a letter from the SVB in Holland about my Dutch State Pension which caused several months delay in it being paid. This hopeless level of service is costing me money now, but I have no idea what to do about it. I can't imagine the Banglamung SO will take kindly to a moaning old farang turning up at their door. And it's not like I live out in the Boondocks, my house is in South Pattaya, just a stone's throw from where the Land Office used to be.

Darkside, last few months. I know I am missing important overseas mail, but without a slip to go and pick up, then no idea if mail has been returned, sitting in a dark post Office room somewhere. Frustrating.

I live in Huai  Yai and it is not unusual to receive two months post all at once. Not sure if the Thais have the same problem. Would be interesting to find out. If you are Thai please let us know.

When we lived in Bang Chang back in the 90s my wife would go to the post office every couple of weeks and go thru a sack of letters they kept out the back addressed to farangs as they could not read the address if it was not in Thai. She would pull out our post and any others that were addressed to her friends. They would let her take them. That worked well!

Post code 20150 post office is located on Sukhumvite opposite floating market. May be worth a visit if you are waiting for something. The office is towards the back on the left. They have pigeon holes for undelivered mail.

We retired here as things are not as formal.

Have fun! 😁

I had a Christmas card posted in Oz arrive in July, and yet my UK Pension PoL certification made it in January. What you going to do? I got my Thai Mrs to go to complain or collect mail  politely, something I am probably not too good at! I likely would make them decide to really mess with me! Haven't seen the kid delivering mail whiz up the road for a long time.... used to be a regular feature.

From @Oink 's post above.

I went there, earlier this year I think. No issue in being seen or spoken to. I need to go again as just discovered one of my pension providers has sent me 2 letters this year I have never seen.

I originally went to the Naklua office as didn't realise it had moved. Had pretty much no issues receiving mail when it was from there. Regular statements every month but for last year zip.......

That's the Pattaya main post office, I think undelivered parcels (as in the postie actually went to your house and tried to deliver it but nobody was at home) end up there so it's where you collect them from. The problem we're having is different as the post simply doesn't seem to be making it to Pattaya to be out for delivery, but is being held up somewhere. It seems to me that the overseas mail is being held back in one of the sorting offices, probably Banglamung but I've no way of being sure. When you receive mail from overseas that's sent using the tracking service, you'll see that it first goes to the Lak Si sorting office in Bangkok, then usually on to the Chonburi City SO, then to Sri Racha, finally ending up in the Banglamung SO before it's out for delivery. Nowhere in the delivery loop is the Pattaya main post office mentioned.

Banglamung is the district post office and includes all "Pattaya" areas incl. Hua Yai (even the part that is not under Pattaya administration).

All postal code 20150 should go there and be distributed from there.

What is the "Pattaya main post office"?

There is no incoming mail delivery/distribution from "Soi Post".

You can only send mail from there.

There is a post office in Jomtien Soi 5 and one supposed to be on Sukhumvit? (not sure).

It was confirmed to me at Naklua that that was where the deliveries to my address were sent from.

The lady I spoke to further confirmed that as did the earlier poster.

No idea what other office may be involved but please let us know if you find out differently.

And in the understanding of foreigners "Naklua" obviously pointing to the Banglamung post office (far north just short before the "fish market").

Post office, seafood market and district office (Amphoe) if you want to marry

All in Naklua subdistrict.

Correct.

Not sure how long the place on Sukhumvit has been there but I hadn't been aware of it before last year/early this.

It's been there since before the pandemic, anyway. I mainly use it for sending EMS to the UK, tax and pensions and all that stuff as it's a lot cheaper than the small franchise postal shops around the town. During Covid, like many people I was getting prescription medicines sent to me here from the UK as I could no longer go back home to pick them up. That worked very well at the time, but never once was the Chaiyapruek post office on Sukhumvit involved. The parcels got to the Banglamung SO, often at 6:00 AM, and were then straight out for delivery at 7:00 AM.

Interesting as that obviously flies in the face of what I was told and poster @Oink

Maybe different for your address which seems strange as I am closer to Naklua (Banglamung) then you are........

Maybe I will get some clarity when I go there next week.........or not

Thanks everyone for the info. I’ll try to better understand how the local postal system works. For now, one registered parcel stopped at Banglamung (Naklua Post Office) and was never delivered to me—it ended up being sent back because I didn’t manage to pick it up in time. Luckily it wasn’t anything important, but clearly these situations can cause unpleasant inconveniences.

Regular mail still hasn’t arrived, but I’ll see what happens in the next few days. In any case, I can confirm that at the Chaiyapruek Post Office (the one in front of the Floating Market) there’s a separate counter dedicated to Huai Yai. However, for example, my parcel never made it there—it stopped earlier at Banglamung (Naklua).

Maybe it also depends on whether it’s a normal parcel, registered mail, EMS, or regular post—each might follow a different route, but I am not sure

Yes I am even more confused than before.

I dropped in today and the lady I spoke to confirmed that certainly letters (for my area) go to that building for allocation to the posties and that the change happened last year........

Also suggested Banglamung not in the process stream which is different to your actual experience - unless they haven't updated the software addresses.........

Unfortunately this was in her limited English so still none the wiser except she confirmed they have no letters lying around for my address.

My dog and I go to the post office and get the mail every Saturday. I've brought them candy and fruit and they take care of me fine.  I always get taken care of first, wonder why?

Unless you have a box or similar I would wonder why they aren't delivering it to you?

Your dog is very cute! I also have two dogs. The post office you go to — is it the one near the floating market? And do you go around to the left side, in the back, where the Huai Yai office is located? Thanks for the info!

Just a quick update.

I had ordered something and the seller shipped it via Thai Post.

I received the tracking number and found the official Thai Post account on LINE. After adding the code, it automatically sent me updates every time the package changed location.

The parcel first left Bangkok, then passed through Sri Racha. After that, it showed up in Banglamung (Naklua Post Office). From there it quickly went out for delivery, and within about 3–4 hours I had it in my hands.

Sri Racha is a shipping centre and interesting it doesn't seem to have gone to the place out near the floating market

Yes that is what I noted.

Due to my missing post I have asked my brother to send me a registered letter so I will see what happens with that.
