Casting Netflix

Featured Replies

I  paid for a pass to Netflix to try it out for a month,  but can't seem to get it to cast from either my phone or desktop PC to my Smart TV.

Been trying for days, have tried every way possible and yes the Wi-Fi matches for all 3 -  casting YouTube or any other site or even my Chrome browser is no issue, can do it in seconds;  Netflix and only Netflix seems to be a problem. Can't  do it from the browser either, it's like it's blocked

Should be an easy fix but I said that days ago and customer support at Netflix says contact your ISP,  the ISP says contact the manufacturer of the TV, etc.... just nonsense

anyway, any tips or suggestions appreciated

Are using a VPN?......that will block it.   I had similar problems and finally solved them by casting not from Chrome .....but the latest Chrome beta version.

  • Mental note "Never buy Hisense TV".

the brand-new TV came with  Netflix as a  pre-loaded app  -  when I click it, I get a pop-up that says "no network connectivity" which is really odd considering I connect to literally every website and app known to man except theirs

If Netflix came with the TV why are you trying to cast it from your phone?

if it were only that easy  lol  unhooked the ethernet days ago

TV, Wi-fi are the same -  no  cast image on Netflix

A bit frustrating, as I say 100% of all "other" websites come through perfectly fine,  the YouTube app I have been watching since I arrived in October no issues at all, I only got Netflix because I was bored with it

I need to cast because the huge N icon on my smart TV doesn't do <deleted> when I click it except tell me I have no connectivity

no VPN,  also disconnected days ago

I have tried,  I'd say,  just about everything, including customer support at 3 places  with no luck.  wasted at least  9 or 10 hours on it.

Oh well,  YouTube it is

Just mirror the entire phone screen to your TV instead of trying to cast Netflix specifically. There should be a function for it on your phone, whether it be called "Screen mirroring" or simply "Cast". Not sure if it will be optimal in terms of resolution and such, but it should be better than nothing.

  • Author

tried that many times, no luck  -  both screens just go totally black

my brand new  TV has Miracast, which "should" work,  but check this  - even though my desktop reads it lower right as a 'castable' screen, to Miracast, which also reads it lower right - I get nothing except black screens if I click that  -  no idea why these pics are rotated like that I am taking them straight on

Beyond frustrating

translated from pics  -  it's telling me  "Android 37d" is available to cast to, from anything on my PC screen  - That's my Smart TV

so I click on that, 'Android 37d' - screens on both go black, I have to hit escape to start again

been trying since Monday off and on, couple hours per day, good thing I'm retired I guess - giving up again today screw this  -  only  24 days left on a subscription,  I won't watch it on a 3 inch Phone or even a 20-inch monitor   so goodbye netflix

Before you go any further... To which Netfix package did you subscribe? Ad supported versions are nobbled in that they cannot cast.

Secondly, what model your TV?

This seems like a possible reason given the OP subscribed to a "promotional" package.

Features/functions are probably described in the T's & C's.

Maybe the OP can share more details? And fewer photos upside-down.

What is the specific package you subscribed to?

I'd probably update and/or uninstall and reinstall the Netflix app on the TV.

Can you cast Youtube from your phone to your TV?

What kind of phone do you have? Android? iPhone?

If Android, do you have Google Home installed?

Can you cast a Chrome browser screen from your pc to your tv

On TV try:

  • Update the TV firmware.

  • Update or reinstall the Netflix app.

  • Make sure the TV’s date/time is correct.

NB:

  • Netflix won’t cast properly from a browser; you need the Netflix app installed on your phone or laptop.

  • If you’re on the Standard with Ads plan in Thailand, casting and downloads are blocked — only Standard or Premium allow it.

AIS, DTAC/True all resell Netflix, all offering multiple packages with different options/features. There may be other resellers, like Broadband ISPs.

It would help if the OP shared details on his trial subscription.

True — AIS, DTAC and True all resell Netflix, each with their own bundles and promos. In fact I use AIS, which saves me from using a credit card.

The casting/download restriction comes from Netflix’s own Standard with Ads plan — not the reseller. Whether you sign up direct or through AIS/True, the app functionality is identical; only the payment method changes.

Nevertheless, casting Netflix to a Smart TV that already has its own Netflix app is not an elegant solution — if the app itself won’t connect, the underlying problem still needs to be fixed.

If my past offered options fail, I’d try changing the DNS to Google (8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) as a last resort.

Yes, very frustrating — seems OP has disengaged.

Agreed.

The OP's package likely only allows one device at any one time, so you'd have to log-off the NetFlix app on the phone or PC, and then re-login on the TV.

I worked on a similar issue with TrueVisions Now, which allowed two simultaneous devices, while I was trying to figure out why the third device wouldn't connect.

I prefer to run Netflix and all other streaming apps on my Chromecast, but finding APKs to sideload is a pain. AIS Play Android TV version is my current challenge. My Chromecast is linked to my U.S. Google account so I can't download the AIS Play app. (Switching to a Thai Google account won't allow me to push it, and I haven't been able to find a working APK free extractor. So I use the AIS Play app on my Samsung TV.

You beat me to it. There are a number of different packages. The cheapest one only allows one screen at a time, so you have to log out of one to view on another device. If the OP has a promotional package, he's probably on the 1-screen only package.

Seems overcomplicated for both OP and yourself. Running native software on the hardware is always the best solution — so why tie yourself up with legacy sideloads and region hacks when your Samsung Smart TV already does the hard work seamlessly, and saves you money to boot with a Thai Google account?

I was not suggesting the OP do anything, other than log off NetFlix on his phone and PC, and relog in into the NF account on the TV. It should connect.

I think I stated my preference.

I haven't  disengaged, I was sleeping

New issue today - can't even get internet on my TV!  awesome, works on my PC and phones but not on TV

Technician coming later hopefully he can fix it  -  and  yes I see Netflix is for various options, I got the package with no ads and 2 devices connected at any time, it's 18 bucks a  month

This will sound crazy, I know -  but I can NOT delete Netflix from apps  - if I click on it, or anywhere near it,  it just shows 'you have a connectivity issue or the time and date settings are not accurate [-121]'  and there is NOWHERE allowed to just delete apps.  I have read some Reddit posts with the same issue, it seems to be common

I wish I was making this all up, I wish I haven't been working on this for 6 days now, I wish I could just click the Netflix app and see movies and shows - I can't do that after trying for 6 days, please trust me and I just read all the posts above and tried 'em, still nothing and now not even internet on my TV so even YouTube is out

Technician can't come fast enough, but how much ya' wanna bet they won't fix it??

Yes, I noticed that, and I shaped my reply accordingly — I’m only here to help. 🙂

With regard to the pictures taken uploaded to AN upside down.

I had/have the same problem sometimes.

I found that if I retook a clearer brighter picture, then uploaded it, it was the correct way around.

I played around with them in Photoshop, resized them and made 'em perfect, etc......in photoshop they looked great

Post 'em here, they are upside down or sideways - way cool

May not believe this but I am actually tech-savvy, have been on and around computers since 1997, even had a few websites over the years - this is amazing because in 6 days I am not only NOT closer to fixing this issue, I am even behind now - can't even watch YouTube on the TV

Not twice, not even 3 times

I'd guess, hmmmm, maybe at least 25 times??  Yups,  25 at least

been trying since Monday so everything has been tried 2, 3 or even 25 times

logged out on 2  phones, logged out on Desktop,  can't connect on TV still

yes I know I can't connect 4  devices  but I got the package which allows 2  so I have been trying on my local phone, my US phone and my computer,  those 3 connect  no issue  at all - but I am not watching movies on a 3 inch screen or a 20 inch laptop, I have a 50-inch TV and that's where it should be going
