Thai Romance 101: Dating Birds or Babysitting? You Decide

Featured Replies

Right, let’s talk Thai birds for a sec. Not the bar slappers, I mean the “good girls,” you know, the so-called “normal ones.” The office lot. The bank clerks. The ones who can pay their own AIS bill and ain’t hangin’ off chrome poles in Walking Street. Lovely girls, don’t get me wrong, but bloody hell, they’ve all got this goofy act they do called ขี้อ้อน (Key-Ohn). Basically, behavin’ like children to get you to treat them extra nice like.

I’m not kiddin’. You’re sat there tryin’ to enjoy a lovely little krapow-gai kai-dow, and she’s pokin’ your arm goin’, “Tirakkk, look at meee na.” Next thing, pouty lips, big eyes, puffin’ up the cheeks with air, then talkin’ like Peppa Pig after a night out on the Sangsom. Thirty-five years old, degree on the wall, car in the driveway, but she’s sat there doin’ baby voices like she’s about to lob the whole pram at me ‘cause someone nicked her favourite Barbie doll.

Back home, a bird pulls that stunt, nah, you’d call her a nutter and block her instantly. Here? Feck, it’s a bloody national romance sport, lads. Olympic-level cutesy. You can’t even eat a bowl of blinkin' noodles without them tryin’ to spoon-feed you like a toddler at nursery.

And the kicker? The bar girls don’t even bother with it. Straight to the point, keep the beer flowin’, the baht rollin’. Job done. Meanwhile, the “good girls” got you sendin’ LINE stickers of cartoon bunnies at 2am like some lovesick muppet.

I’m tellin’ ya, lads, half the time I dunno if I’m hanging meself out of proper women here or just runnin’ the late shift at a bloomin’ child daycare centre.

Oh, you are talking about the good girls, the normal ones office workers, bank clerks, 7eleven girls.

I got it now.

It's all in the girl, my Thai girlfriend, uneducated, poor family, she was very modest, only 2 guys before me. She worked factory, Big C, etc.

Australia, had a girlfriend, legal secretary, biggest dirty, filthy woman ever met

Your categorization of women is irrelevant.

Good timing, Lewie!  Just as I sat down with a mug of Darjeeling tea and a breakfast plate.  There is little that turns me off more than forced 'cute.' The country of origin makes no difference. I don't do 'cute.'  I want to relate to adults when dating or socializing, not children.

Thanks for the good read, Lewie.  Keep it up. And do NOT visit Japan...  image.jpeg.b495ad15748a60c882335a7e06b56e9d.jpegimage.jpeg.dab1dba88f0284cbdb05cd630a424e28.jpeg

Same thing in Korea. It's called "aegyo", basically being childish and sickeningly cute to get attention.

The reason why this post is silly is because back in the West most men not only put up with that, but they put up with infinitely more, checking their cojones at the door every time they walk in the house, and letting the woman rule the roost, control the accounts, and make all the decisions, because otherwise there's hell to pay.

The other aspect of this is that Thai women tend to be light-hearted and playful, and I am not sure what's wrong with that, personally I love it.

Here a man can get away with playing the role of a man, and most women are comfortable playing the role of a woman, which is very healthy very refreshing and quite wonderful. Of course this only applies to men who haven't suffered from extreme emasculation in the West, most of those guys typically bring their SIMP culture with them, and behave like little human doormats, allowing the exact same thing to happen to them again here.

It is a really sad and pathetic thing to witness.

Yep, he's been grinding it on AN overtime again lately, cranking out the drivel at warp speed and now he thinks he owns the joint, waving around his imaginary copyright on forum sh*t show antics.

Hey, Gamma, is that you in this clip suffering emotional meltdown while some tourist floozy hijacks your precious paradise of salvation?

I’d wager you smack around your woman if she does not agree with you.

I remember a foreigner who introduced me to his socalled serious new gf.He was so proud.

She was a nice and beautiful lady.I speak thai well and she told me he was just another fling for her.

Of course i didn't say anything to him.A few days after she sat and made a haircut and she saw me passing and contacted me.She was so happy because her Canada visa was granted and she told me she would go see her bf there.I said i was happy for her.A week after the foreigner asked if i have seen her because he lost contact.

I then told him the truth and he get sad and heartbroken.A few days after i saw him holding a hand to another lady so i guess he was happy again.

Your post is a prime example of the sexism that continues to pervade our society. You embody the stereotype of a passport bro perfectly. If your mother were to read this, she would undoubtedly feel deep disappointment.

Wife says Thai women act this way ขี้อ้อน (Key-Ohn) when they want something from you. It is better than losing face begging for it.

I seriously doubt that, as my mother was old school and she was very comfortable embracing the dignity within femininity, unlike most western women these days.

Or perhaps you could explain yourself more clearly, and tell us exactly what it was that offended you

Whats wrong with being sexist?

You have to watch out Spidermike, as you'll end up in the assuming bracket of some here. There's no way of knowing how "most" men in the west act, as you only know possibly a few hundred, and maybe just a few personally. I've never known a man in the US who was letting the woman control him, or everything. I do know many who let the other do what they do best, splitting the teamwork as to who can manege what best, be it finances, child care, work, housework, cooking etc.

We do see a lot of Karens but that's only because the media is all over these days, with most anyone posting things because everyone has a phone with a camera, and spend far too much time on them, and getting into other's business.

Men and women play the same roles they've always played, at least since more women became more independent and shared the workload, which doesn't emasculate men but helps them. Women here do what most men want because they're getting paid for it, as much less are independent and need the man's money more.

We know you dislike the US since you left, but that's a personal thing, as it's still the same country it's always been, and has just had more problems because the population's increased, along with it's share of nutcases because of that change. Some like Thailand because they can get a younger woman easier, but take that away and what do you have here besides the beaches and food, things you can get anywhere and without all the hassle and danger of driving and lack of enforcement, which will have crime increasing every year?

Sexism may be defined as an ideology based on the belief that one sex is superior to another. It is discrimination, prejudice, or stereotyping based on gender, and is most often expressed toward women and girls. Sociology has examined sexism as manifesting at both the individual and the institutional level...............................   What's wrong with that definition?

We disagree on a number of things, first of all the US is not the same country that it's always been, it's a dramatically diminished version of its former self, and second of all nearly every man that I know in the US who is in a relationship, is required to be wholly or partially emasculated, the woman makes nearly all of the decisions, some men are not even allowed to carry cash, and the extent to which they are subordinate to their women is stupid.

I don't dislike the US, frankly I enjoy spending time there, but I do see the problems and the issues within American culture, and I'm not afraid to call call it out how I see it. Some would call that  unpatriotic, some would refer to me as a traitor, and some just simply don't like the exposition of truth. Especially those who still live in the US.

If you don't see that, either you are in denial, or we are living in parallel universes.

If you don't see that, either you are in denial, or we are living in parallel universes.

I'm not in denial on anything. I just see things just as they are, like how I look at politics from the middle, not taking sides but just seeing what they actually do. The US has changed in some ways because the population has changed, as politics and the nonsense they envelop have always been off kilter.I lived there 62 years, and go back yearly, along with having hundreds of family and friends still there I talk to, and get news from.

Again, you really don't know as many men as you think, and you don't live with anyone besides your own family, so you can only see things from the outside, which is usually always a fraction of what really goes on behind closed doors. Some are only in touch with a few people daily, let alone their families, and some have many more that they spend time with.

I have known myself many men. friends, family, acquaintances, and have never seen the wife in charge of anything besides how I placed it. One does what one does best, the other the same. That doesn't make a man emasculated because he's still the household center, the leader, that the woman looks up to.

Of course there are some who might be following like sheep, but that happens everywhere, including here. Although this looks like a man dominated country, the women are in charge of most everything. They are looked at as secondary, but the men here wouldn't survive without their women, even though they act masculine. Just looking how thousands of teen boys act here shows they are immature, with little guidance from fathers.  The kids, cooking, housework, while the man just goes to the farm or work and brings home the money, then does little else. Who do you see raising and disciplining the kids here (if it happens at all)? Who do you see yelling at the top of their lungs, in public? Boys are looked at as special, while the girls secondary, although they excel much more in life.
