Day trips from Patong to other beach areas - where to go ?

Featured Replies

Ok, so we're staying in Patong but we want to get out to see some other beach areas. Ideally, something nice, laid back, perhaps like Lamai or Ao Nang in early evening where you can grab some seafood along the beach and have a couple of drinks at laid back bars.

Not looking for late night stuff, possibly to go in the afternoon and spend the evening there.

Places that come up are Kamala, Surin, Kata, Karon, etc. but I've never been to any of those places.

We possibly have time to go to two different places on different days so which are the best ?

Go through Kamala, past the entrance to Fantasea and instead of making the right hand turn to head further north, go straight ahead and the small road takes you to the north end of Kamala Beach. Usually parking at the end of the road by the police station.

Fronting the beach are a plethora of beach restaurants and a lovely place to enjoy a sunset with a meal and a drink and your feet almost in the sand.

Use 'Lillo Island Restaurant & Bar' as destination on Gmap ... good food also 👍👍

Or Kata Beach, and 'Kata Mama Seafood' at southern end is good place to munch and take in the view.

I would go the other way. South to Karon, Kata, Kata Noi, on to Naiharn, and Laem Promthep.  Then cut to Rawai for good real Thai seafood, and maybe to a nice Wat in Chalong. Nice day out. Kata is a nice little town on the beach and up onto the hill.

Sounds great if driving but we're at the behest of public transport so multi destinations are a bit difficult.

Perhaps one trip north and one south then !

Banana beach, very nice, not crowded

Bang Tao.  Lived there for about 8 months.  Lovely beach but pay attention to the red flags as rough sea at this time of year.

I have taken the ferry from Phuket over to Ao Nang.  Beautiful ride as you motor past several small islands, rock outcroppings etc.  Ao Nang is on the quiet side and very pretty to visit, but not really a great beach.  Of course you could then take the long tail boat and motor around the point to Railey beach which is pretty

I think Karon beach is wonderful.  Just wade out into the water, turn around and look up and you can see the big white buddha.  Very surreal.  Walking from Karon towards Kata beach there are then many very nice restaurants and side streets with bars etc..

A bit of long way, but for something different, can go to Nai Yang beach near the airport , plenty of restaurants there, and can also walk a bit along the beach to the beginning of runway, and wait under the planes that take off or land for that special Facebook snap...!
