Reparations for my European brothers and sisters

The allocation of $4.5 billion falls short of addressing the injustices of the past. It is essential to enhance reparations and demonstrate a deeper respect for our indigenous population. We must take meaningful steps towards acknowledging their history and rights.

What does "enhance reparations" mean, throw more money at it? It's a bottomless pit that has achieved nothing.

Kooris immigrated to Australia 50,000 - 65,000 years ago. My forebears came here about 200 years ago.

As far as I am concerned, I am just as indigenous to Australia as they are. We are both immigrants. You might as well have Normans paying reparations to the Saxons.

I acknowledge full - blood Kooris have superb bush survival skills no white man can emulate. They also have a very dark side.

We spend a fortune on renaming districts and landmarks, for the sake of political correctness. It's BS.

Their history is one of mythical beings and events, much like the Bible or Koran.

These detrimental outcomes are direct consequences of colonization.

I guess they would do better without hospitals, then.

Yes, and every black person, Indian, and Japanese should get a million dollars due to bombs and discrimination.  They deserve it!

Kidnapping and forcing someone against their will is not just a crime; it is a profound violation of human rights and dignity.

It wasnt 200 years ago. There goes your argument.

It is essential that we keep the past in our hearts and minds, for it shapes who we are and guides our future.

Ok, so that´s why the world looks like it does today, right? I think we at least should try looking at the present instead. Agree?

Reparations for Black slavery descendants is a very real conversation in the US. But, somehow talking about white slaves is laughed at. Explain please,

I would disagree with this. Nowadays Americans are tired of Blacks using racism for everything when they themselves are now to blame for their place in society. Most blacks, not all, but most, have opportunities when growing up to educate themselves in the same schools white people do, to get jobs after their education the same as white people do, and to have opportunities to make their own businesses the same as white people do. The only thing that holds them back is their own upbringing as free blacks in America. When i grew up there, the blacks were the ones causing havoc, not studying, robbing, cheating., stealing, dealing drugs and killing people. They chose not to use their schools to learn and educate themselves. Those few who did now are wealthy or corporate tycoons. The blacks had their reparations with. free housing, free food, free education, free opportunities unlike the white people who struggled to make a better life. The blacks chose the simpler path of crime and drugs. So explain to me why anyone would think the blacks would need more reparations. Them and their families have already been given everything and a chance to improve their lives, but they threw it all away for easy quick money. Americans are tired of blacks using racism as their excuse for their problems. It simply is not true. If anything, the blacks use reverse racism now against the whites to try to get more than they deserve or earned.

20% of Australians are Roman Catholic. That's way too many.

As a Catholic myself I don't see that as a problem! They may be (to varying degrees) devout and practicing, but rarely fanatical; certainly not in the way of the evangelical religious groups in the USA who take a lead from the " Pilgrim Fathers".

"Way to many" - what do you suggest should be done? Imprisonment or expulsion on religious grounds is a bit passé these days!

Yeah, this is a super good thread. See how many you goy hooked on history far far away.

For all of you: You don´t think that the world has enough problems at present time, so you have to engage in discussion what happened far back in history and try to solve non-existing problems? You guys are one of kind! 😂

Vikings will be next with all their raping and pillaging.

At least the Europeans didn't flay captives from different tribes like many of the native tribes did after a battle.

The Europeans didn't do anything that the natives hadn't been doing to each other for millennia.  They just had better tech.

The Catholic church in Australia is much too influential in politics. The result is huge distortions in school funding, and concessions on property taxes in prime locations. The estimated value of Church assets is $30 billion.

I suggest you check out the Royal Commission into Child Sexual Abuse, your church figures prominently, both in offenders and its inadequate responses. It's estimated up to 15% of priests were sexual predators.

I'd suggest gelding of people who want to be priests and nuns would be a good start. The Church has never admitted celibacy has nothing to do with purity, more to protect its property from inheritance claims.

Of course you don't see it as a problem, you are in an echo chamber.

It's time for reparations in the USA. We must take decisive action to empower the Black community and restore it to its full strength. Acknowledging and addressing the injustices of the past is not just a moral imperative—it's a crucial step toward a more equitable future for all. This is the right thing to do.

Gosh.  Here's another idea.  Why don't we let them live (and work) among us where they can make 25x as much as they could back in Africa?

Average GDP per capita in Africa is a little less than $3K.  In the USA, it's a little over $85K.

Strange, then according to history it was all fair game then! that same time the Europeans also stole and shipped millions of African black slaves to south America to steal all the gold. They are only rich today because of all the stolen gold.

Not to mention how disgusting Catholicism and most of the "Jesus" religions are and always be the abomination of the human society.

Why isn't this part of our children's history lessons and when can we begin discussing reparations.

The Muslim countries of North Africa should settle up.

Agreed. It was the black community that sold their fellow countrymen as well so maybe they should pay us. It was the UK that stopped the slave trade.

Sometimes I think that some of the points you make are worth considering, and then you go and pull a stroke like this!

Your tolerance is really shining through!

If they are 20% of the population then it is hardly surprising that they are an influential group - are there any other groups in Australian society who number such a large proportion of the population?

We can cherry picking as much we want, and no matter what, no matter religion and skin, humans is quite a horrifying creature.

Give them the possibility to do something without direct responsibility and consequences, or a good reason, they will do anything no matter how injustice or evil it is seen with a healthy mind

It starts from the top

The Roman Catholic Church is the most politically influential group in Australia. The current Prime Minister is a Catholic.

My tolerance of pedophilia is zero. What made it worse with your precious church was the fact bishops and cardinals shifted abusers from parish to parish, when they should have been kicking them out, and informing the police. Priests such as Gerald Ridsdale offended for decades. Google "Melbourne Response" as an example of church priorities.

The Church is full of smart people, but not one has had the guts to admit publicly when you enforce celibacy against basic human sexuality, it is statistically inevitable a proportion of those affected will have their sexual drives distorted into perversion.

What can possible go wrong?

A religion of men, and only men and women is not allowed but children is available for education purposes?

Throughout the history have shown it was a bad bad idea, but, it is still going on the day today

The whole business of forcibly shipping and resettling people to different countries is a complex matter, with many consequences and ramifications. Britain for example shipped it's criminals to Australia and it's religious fanatics to the Americas.

On balance, Australia turned out much better!

Same with the Netherlands and Germany, people to radical to fit in the society left for the States. Some wanted to go back but were refused, granddaddy Trump for instance.

What about all of us europeans migrants,  who colonised, looted and stole land in what is today the USA ?

Relying on GDP as a measure of success in life is white supremacy.

It is essential for you to contribute to a reparation fund through a payroll deduction. Your support will make a meaningful impact and help foster positive change.

They are far better off free from the shadow of colonial intrusion, spared from the theft of their land and the weight of white supremacy.

Are you willing to turn a blind eye to the atrocities against humanity that were perpetrated by white individuals throughout history?

No one turns a blind eye to anything, except racist folks who blame "whites" for all the worlds ills. I guess the Mongols and the Communist Chinese are all blonde and blue eyed.  When the Sioux were slaughtering the Rees and Crows and stealing their land, the victims were yelling "go way paleface". Idi Amin  must have used a tanning bed. And yes, Mahommed, he was on the cover of an Ivory Snow Box.

Here: It is stupid to judge the past based on the present.
