Thai AirAsia X has announced a new direct flight route from Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport to Almaty, Kazakhstan, with promotional fares starting at 6,690 baht. The service will operate four times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays beginning December 1. This marks the airline's first expansion into Central Asia, aiming to attract Thai tourists with visa-free travel, cultural attractions, and scenic landscapes.

The move aligns with Thai AirAsia X’s broader strategy to explore new markets beyond its established routes to Japan and South Korea. The airline plans to utilize its Airbus A330 aircraft, capable of accommodating 367 passengers per flight. CEO Pattra Boosarawongse highlighted the novelty of Almaty as a destination, emphasizing its appeal due to its cool climate and cultural richness.

The promotional fare can be booked through the AirAsia MOVE app or the airline’s website until September 21, for travel between December 1 and March 28 of the following year. Earlier, the AirAsia Group introduced a Kuala Lumpur-Almaty route, which gained popularity among travelers, thus reinforcing the potential of the new route from Bangkok.

Almaty, formerly Kazakhstan’s capital, offers diverse attractions such as Big Almaty Lake and Charyn Canyon. Visitors can enjoy skiing at Shymbulak Ski Resort and explore cultural sites like Zenkov Cathedral and the Almaty City Museum. The city’s rich heritage and appealing landscapes are poised to draw both leisure and business travelers.

Thai AirAsia X currently operates a fleet of nine aircraft to eight destinations, including Tokyo, Seoul, and now Almaty. This expansion is expected to boost the airline's customer base and reinforce its status as a leading low-cost carrier in Asia.

Key Takeaways:

  • Thai AirAsia X launches direct flights from Bangkok to Almaty.
  • New route reflects expansion strategy into Central Asian markets.
  • Promotional fares available for travel starting December 1.
