September 13, 2025Sep 13 As passport numbers change every 10 years, should i give my bank my Thai id number? I guess i would also need to register it with AIS to keep my bank apps in snyc and working?
September 13, 2025Sep 13 Popular Post I tried that once, and the bank wouldn't let me do it. They said, an account is either tied to your passport or tied to your ID card. If the account had been opened using a passport, you cannot switch to ID card.

September 14, 2025Sep 14 Same here, the bank wants ID from your pp only as the name is original in your language whereas a Thai ID is your name written in Thai and subject to misinterpretation.

In addition, your passport provides confirmation that you are staying in Thailand legitimately, which the pink ID card does not. Last time I visited my local BBL branch a couple of weeks ago, they got me to self-certify copies of not just the passport photopage but also the page containing my latest extension of stay stamp.

You don't mention which bank, but if Bangkok Bank you can update your passport # in the app. AIS prepaid can be done in their app also.
