Delayed Ambulance Response Leads to Man's Death in Trang

A 60-year-old man, Charoen, collapsed near a hospital in Trang, Thailand, and died after waiting 40 minutes for an ambulance that never arrived. This incident has prompted questions about the country's emergency response system. Despite repeated calls to emergency hotlines, the necessary help was delayed, leading to Charoen's death from an acute heart attack.

Charoen, a hotel caretaker, collapsed at his workplace, with his wife and grandchild witnessing his distress. Attempts to get help through the 1669 and 191 hotlines were futile, as there was no available ambulance from the local hospital. By the time a good Samaritan transported him to the hospital, Charoen was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The family was informed that the hospital lacked a vehicle as the ambulance was supposedly directed elsewhere. They also mentioned staff shortages, including a pregnant nurse unable to respond. These factors, they claim, contributed to the failure of the system, leaving them feeling angry and disillusioned.

Preeda, Charoen’s wife, expressed her belief that had the ambulance arrived promptly, her husband could have been saved. The family has filed a complaint with the Ombudsman and plans to petition the Trang Provincial Public Health Office for a comprehensive investigation to prevent similar tragedies.

Key Takeaways

  • Charoen died due to ambulance delays, questioning emergency services.
  • Family claims staff shortages and miscommunication played roles.
  • An investigation has been demanded to ensure systemic improvements.

So the hospital only had one ambulance. great!

Tragic.  Hopefully something good comes out of this and more people can get helped in the future.

  RIP poor old Fellow.

The Hospital could've called  maybe an other Ambulance  service , seems very strange that there  is only one ambulance   in Trang.

Nah, must be more then one for sure .

In an emergency an ambulance is just a luxury!

Time is not a luxury!

Throw together in a car to treat a heart attack, a defibrillator, medications like nitroglycerin, aspirin, and IV fluids, along with CPR equipment.

It's not rocket science.

Have a police escort for the vehicle.
