Three puppies were found brutally killed in a rubber plantation along Phru Toa–Thung Ngai Road, Thung Yai subdistrict, Hat Yai district, Songkhla province, on 19 September 2025. The animals had their abdominal organs removed, causing shock and outrage among local residents. Authorities and animal welfare groups have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrator.

The scene was examined by Somkid Boonchachat, Chair of The HOPE Songkhla Animal Welfare Organisation, together with Lt. Wisanu Sangman, deputy investigator at Kho Hong police station, police detectives and veterinarians from Hat Yai District Livestock Office. Investigators noted that the attack appeared to have been carried out with skill using a very sharp knife. Locals reported that seven puppies had been present initially, with two disappearing prior to the incident and the three found dead were mutilated; the remains were later removed from the site.

Somkid Boonchachat announced that a reward of 20,000 baht has been offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. Six warning signs in Thai and Burmese have been installed in the area to discourage cruelty and request tips from the public. She emphasised that the act constitutes a violation of the Animal Cruelty Prevention and Welfare Act, punishable by up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine of 40,000 baht, or both.

Veterinarian Salirat Khongsalee urged the community to monitor vulnerable areas, noting that the secluded location could allow the perpetrator to commit further acts of violence. She also reminded pet owners to take responsibility for their animals, including vaccinating against rabies, spaying or neutering and not abandoning pets. The warning coincides with a recent outbreak of rabies in Songkhla province, with local authorities providing free vaccinations in districts, municipalities and subdistrict administrative organisations.

Authorities and animal welfare groups continue to search for the individual responsible. Public tips and community vigilance are being encouraged to ensure the suspect is apprehended. Officials stress ongoing monitoring of stray and domestic animals to prevent similar incidents in the future.
