Bangkok police are pursuing two groups of vocational students after a violent street clash on 19 September left commuters alarmed and caused disruption. Metropolitan Police Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Siam Boonsom ordered a review of CCTV footage and coordination with schools to identify the culprits.

The incident came to wider attention after well-known luk thung singer Ooy Saengsin posted a video of the fight on social media. The footage showed students armed with weapons fighting in the middle of a road, sparking widespread criticism. In his caption, the singer urged authorities to act, warning that if violence spread to bystanders it could have severe consequences.

The confrontation took place at around 09.10 on 19 September near Soi Phetkasem 102/4 in Bang Khae, Bangkok. CCTV footage revealed two rival groups: the first with seven male youths arriving on four motorbikes from Thawi Watthana canal road and the second with nine individuals, including six men and three women, also travelling on four motorbikes. After the clash, the first group fled towards Soi Phetkasem 69.

Preliminary investigation has confirmed links to local educational institutions. One member of the first group was identified as a third-year student in the machine shop department at a technology college. From the second group, one suspect was found to be studying accounting at another vocational college.

Pol Col Lertsak Khiemsap, superintendent of Lak Song Police Station, together with Pol Lt Col Thanapong Meesaengngern and the investigative team, are leading the inquiry. Investigators are gathering evidence from CCTV and liaising with the colleges to pinpoint all suspects involved. Authorities have emphasised that those identified will face legal proceedings.

The case has heightened public concern about recurring violence between vocational students, often played out on city streets. Critics, including Ooy Saengsin, argue that stronger enforcement and preventive measures are needed to protect the public. Police have assured the community that efforts to locate and arrest those responsible is continuing.

Kick them out of school. Give them 3 years of sweeping the streets. Both fine and jail the parents. Make a statement!
