Interestingly enough, the "farmhouse" brand has a crust at both ends, Lotus own brand I just noticed has a crust only at one end! From that, Dr Watson, the inescapable conclusion is that they must bake it in really long loaves!

Now logic suggests that half of all Lotus own brand small loaves will come with no crusts at all. Unless - Lotus bake larger loaves, but only large enough that when baked, sliced and bagged they only produce one large and one small loaf! An enquiring mind can be such a curse don't you think?

Fairly tasty, soft not crusty, but tastes good and make great toast ........ I have posted many times here about the SUPERB quality of the Hua Hin bread.....Its not maybe the best bread in Thailand...Nope....It is the best bread in Thailand and by a long shot too......Its the only bread I buy.....There is ZERO chemical crapola in this bread... With coins you can get it for 100-130 a loaf...Even less on the monthly sales days... Hua Hin Dark Bread 850g European Homemade Bakery App

My rabbits love farmhouse wholewheat, but refuse all other breads, farmhouse white, all other breads, they just refuse. So I have to buy it just for them.

For example, Big C Extra has regular promotions in their Imported Foods departments. I'm not a great fan of sweets and biscuits, so cannot easily quote prices of such things, but examples would be packs of HobNobs and Ginger Nuts for around 20 baht. No exaggeration. Tyrells hand-cooked English crisps, 150 grams; 33 baht. Morrisons The Best Fruit & Nut Granola Muesli, 500 grams; 60 baht. D'aucy Peeled Tomatoes 380 grams; 23 baht. Carrefour Extra Gianduja chocolate bar 200 grams 45 baht. Carrefour Extra Hazelnut and Raisin chocolate bar; 38 baht. RakuRaku Miso Shiru 4 Pack; 14 baht. Carrefour Milk chocolate bar 2 x 100 grams; 29 baht. Colemans English Mustard 170 grams; 23 baht. Coop(Italy) Risotto(various); 10 baht to 19 baht. Just some recent examples. A bit off the food topic, but a TCL a/c listed at over 13500 is now less than 8000 on the app, with all my coins etc.

Still ok though! Yes, short best before date, but they never last very long in my cupboard so not a problem.

Agree in most cases but biscuits like these do tend to go soft over time and lose their appeal. For meat, fish and most others I use the smell test rather than some arbitrary date written on the wrapping.

September 24, 2025Sep 24 @treetops Put 'em in the oven. I bought some Krackawheat to eat with cheese. They were a bit soft. Put the amount that I intended to eat in the oven, at 100 Celsius for a few minutes. Better than new :)
September 24, 2025Sep 24 Wasn't it written that the cheaper Heinz baked beans came from China? I don't know, as I only read it here. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the big brands are having things made under licence, in places such as China. When I scrutinise some of the packaging, there no place of origin.

September 24, 2025Sep 24 @scubascuba3 I think the upshot of what they were saying is that they didn't taste the same. Again, it's just what I read. @ChipButty Certainly Malaysia for some products. @BritManToo I have no idea, as tend to not to purchase tinned foods in general.

September 24, 2025Sep 24 @scubascuba3 It's quite often you'll find that the same product made for different markets will have a different recipe. Take Nutella for example. Different amounts of sugar and other ingredients, according to the market. Heinz baked beans are likely no different. https://inter-culturally-yours.blogspot.com/2013/05/heinz.html
