Thaksin Shinawatra, former Thai Prime Minister, remains at Klong Prem Central Prison despite rumors of his transfer to Corrections Hospital. Officials have confirmed that he is still incarcerated at Klong Prem, experiencing normal symptoms for his age, such as fatigue and body aches. Thaksin's condition was reviewed by a prison doctor, dispelling the notion of a hospital move.

Earlier reports indicated Thaksin, aged 76, had complained of fatigue and body pain, common for someone his age. Pol Lt Col Shane Kanchanapach previously mentioned Thaksin developed cervical spondylosis and was examined last Friday. After the check-up, Thaksin was returned to the prison, with officials noting that his overall condition is stable, allowing him to eat meals regularly.

Critics have questioned any external medical treatment for Thaksin due to a court ruling on September 9, which required him to serve a one-year prison sentence. This decision followed allegations that his earlier time at the Police General Hospital’s luxury ward did not count as incarceration.

Thaksin's lawyer, Winyat Chartmontree, arranged for a family visit, with his daughter Pintongta Kunakornwong and brother-in-law Pitak Suksawat visiting. This visit marked the third since Thaksin began serving his sentence, with his youngest daughter, Paetongtarn, planning to visit him later due to prior engagements.

Supporters, including members of the Red Shirt movement and an international supporter from the Netherlands, gathered outside the prison expressing solidarity. Meanwhile, Corrections Department spokesperson Kanokwan Jiuchueapun reiterated, “There has been no hospital transfer (for Thaksin),” denying the circulating rumors.

Looking ahead, the situation remains closely monitored with ongoing scrutiny regarding Thaksin’s prison treatment. His family continues scheduled visits, with further developments expected in the coming weeks related to his health and remaining sentence.

Key Takeaways

  • Thaksin Shinawatra is confirmed to remain at Klong Prem Central Prison.
  • Rumors of a hospital transfer have been denied by corrections officials.
  • Family visits and public demonstrations of support continue for Thaksin.

Do you read the news online? For the last week he has been the elderly ward of Klong Prem Prison.

Guys, why you have so much animosity towards him?

He ruled it so as to gain financial advantage and power. Nothing else.

Well I am glad that some on this forum is awake!!

I understood that to mean that he is in a standard cell with up 30 old men, sleeping on the floor. They are still all old felons, part of the General Population but kept apart for their own physical safety. I am sure there will be times when they join the community and old friendships can be rekindled, new friends made and debts repaid

Ruled? He was supposed to govern !

Tony might consider wearing one of these neck braces, which originate from his homeland in the northern region

I do know there is a lot of politically motivated BS out there but sometimes we have to smart enough to read between the lines!!

Thaksin was for the people which does not suit the narrative of the ruling Thai elites!!

During his first term, he performed exceptionally well across various sectors, which raised the expectations of the Thai people significantly.
However, as his second term began, his true nature started to surface.
He reportedly leveraged his role as Prime Minister to market communication services to other countries, generating substantial personal income.
One notable initiative during this period was the "1 Baht per day" universal health insurance scheme. Although it initially seemed promising, the program lasted just one year. Policy renewals were impossible, and the entire insurance company vanished, allegedly along with funds benefiting Tony.
The controversy surrounding rice pricing was another major issue tied to the Shinawatra family, especially Thaksin's sister Yingluck. When Thai rice farmers were cultivating their crops, rice prices surged. Seizing this opportunity, the government exported its stockpile for enormous profits.
Yet when farmers began harvesting that rice, prices plummeted significantly, enabling the government to acquire and replenish its reserves cheaply.
These are moments drawn from my personal experience in Thailand, which have led to my deep frustration with this family, particularly Tony.

You are very nieve  to think Thaskin was for the people     Thaskin is only for himself  he does not care about the people

a former provincial governor said "Before Thaksin we had about 10-15% corruption here in Thailand, but when Thaksin came to power that turned to 25-30%..." "Thaksin is the smartest Thai alive, sadly he use his knowledge only for himself and not for Thailand and the Thai people!"

When it suits he can muster up any condition.

He seemed to be moving quite freely a day or two before his incarceration.
