Wow!  That time again.  Oh well, on the bright side the local reservoirs should get topped off this year.  I need to keep an eye on this as I've got a dentist appointment in Chiang Mai next week.  Thanks for the "heads up!".

HuayJo reservoir already full and gates opened, causing a rampaging torrent down the spillway yesterday morning.

Road behind Caltex petrol station on the 1001 near the university already flooded.

With the storm approaching I can't see anyway that the loi krow /night market area won't be flooding.

The area between patan and sarapee is a flood plain, so naturally it is prone to flooding as usual.

What happened to Ragasa? Has it already hit or is iit still coming?

Thailand seems to need better water management agency, like the US Army corps of engineers maybe?  Thailand gets a lot of rain.  Needs more reservoirs?   Via ducts, hydrology engineers?  Some agency to coordinate between various provinces

Oh hell yes,  bring Trump too.

I cannot access the website that I have used for years. It simply times out. Typical.

So Anutin is going to invest 100 billion in flood defences for Ayutthaya and the capital but CM gets damn all except a city government and a regional government that are both devoid of action. The dredging that was carried out recently was minimal and at the river margins so maybe improved things by 10%, but we still face widespread flooding in the next few days if the forecast rains arrive. How .9ng before people here rise up against this wilful neglect.

Just like the US, people build houses and businesses where they shouldn't.

Yes, same in Oz. People buy land that's cheap because it's flood-prone. They build their house on it then expect the government to bail them out when the inevitable flood arrives.

In the US, those who are well off buy houses on the beach and on beautiful hillsldes to show off, even though they take a risk with mudslides, hurricanes and the like. They don't care, as the insurance will just replace it, even though to me they are eyesores. Some are protected if they don't have insurance also, using federal disaster insurance.

I've been getting this message on my phone everyday for more than a week.  I live in Doi Saket.  While we have been getting some rain, it hasn't been enough to cause any problems.  When I bought land and built accommodations for my family, I deliberately chose an area away from the city and the Ping River.

Was in town yesterday (immigration)

Lunch Time (12:00) at KuaLek cafe, sun was shining, river was a lot lower than the weekend

Driving home at 1:45pm, torrential rain, river visibly a lot higher.

The heavy rain continued until 6:45am this morning.

No flooding at the moment.

I think it's all over for this year.

Not so fast!

Typhoon Matmo is to have its say yet......

Back of 89 plaza will be toast again.

Effectively they were rice fields and there is a reason that old city of Chiang Mai was abandoned.

Did they dredge the river to make it deeper ? I think this is going to be a peramanent feature and something more drastic needs to happen.
