My mother has taken that for many years and she's 94.

I'll take an Omeprazole pill once or twice a week, maybe.

Take one every 34 hours, for the last year.

Life is good again.

Depends on how your guts react

The NHS has put out a warning about this on its website. The statement reads: "Do not take omeprazole for longer than two weeks if you bought it without a prescription. See a GP if your symptoms get worse or do not get better."

Take it rarely. Reckon folk are losing out on nutrients with overuse. Stuff might not be getting broken down properly.

Omeprazole speeding along the familiar unpaved track, Pantoprazole cruising the smoother but costlier road — all under the circuit of Clopidogrel.

🧾 By the way, both medicines are already off-patent. Biology itself is not that difficult — it’s what we humans do with it that makes it complicated.

I was taking it, or maybe it was a different -prazole.  It sort of helped, but not impressive,  I ended up using bicarbonate of soda for definitely positive results.  I only take it when I need it, and I realize I would need it less if I cut down on the spicy stuff.  Hey, YOLO!

I take it daily, for decades.  It was either that, or shoot myself to end the misery.  If I found out today that it's causing problems, I'd still take it and consider it a decent trade-off.

Note to those who are considering using it-  For me, the full benefit doesn't kick in for hours.  Taking it only occasionally just doesn't work.  YMMV.

Famotidine (Pepcid) worked, but only for a few hours.  Sodium bicarb worked much faster, but only for an hour or so.

Never heard of Pantoprazole, is it available in Thailand at pharmacies?

I take it if gastritis feels like it's flaring up, recently used a box of 100 tablets then stopped a month ago, been fine

How do you know when those 34 hours are occurring? Doesn't it change each week, month, year?

I guess you meant 24 hours.

A glug of gaviscon works the same for reflux at night for me after too spicy food

Took it from 2000-2016 daily, NHS said for years there were no side effects now they claim it's the cause of brittle bones, dementia and cancers. Here they only seem to do 20 mg at home can get 10 or 15mg. Best to get off it if you can.

I'm easily fixed as I can't eat spicy food, I even get a reaction from sugar based products. Also coffee or tea makes me feel sore all over especially my throat.

Thanks for asking.

FYI, AN contains multiple threads referring to Pantoprazole and its availability in Thailand:

Have been taking it for over a year to get my gut microbiome back in order as H Pylori did a number on it, and it is part of the treatment, as acid increases from H Pylori eradication. Without it I don't get heartburn but a little indigestion, even though I've always eaten very healthy. This, along with Domperidone has helped, added to a diet high in fiber, pro and prebiotics, collagen and yogurt.

Maybe take a holiday from Omeprazole every couple of months and use an H-2 blocker (Famotidine, Ranitidine) for a whole month?

Isn't Ranitidine banned in the USA.

Thats very similar to advice my gastroenterologist gave me:

I told him my orthopedic doctor wasn't happy I took omeprazole, because it can cause osteoporosis.

The gastroenterologist recommended to switch to famotidine.

We didn't talk about time frames.

BTW some people take omeprazole 20mg only every second day (I tried this, too). But this is not what guidelines recommend.

Not a ppi, not the same type of drug I believe.

Omeprazole is really cheap in Thailand, Fascino GPO 100x20mg for 180 baht, Dexilant 28x30mg about 2,000 baht

British Gaviscon formula that Thailand is using.

Gaviscon in USA/Canada is utter garbage.
