Repeated Poisonings Kill Nearly Entire Village’s Dogs in Korat

I don't see it as that, as 99% of all crimes and things like this are of course committed by locals. Yes, some foreigners hate dogs and a few might go towards poisoning them, likely something they also did back home, but the majority is still locals.

Soi dog foundations spays ans neuters animals, along with inoculating and adopting some out. If the government supported them, instead of the going by only donations and did this countrywide, it would go a long way towards fixing this problem.

Well maybe so, not working in my Soi though, the number of dogs is just increasing by the week as people come around and leave food for them thinking they're preforming a Buddhist act of mercy.

That's the problem. They only work in certain areas and dogs make babies everywhere. Feeding dogs has some acting more friendly, instead of just hitting them with sticks and clubs, which will make them fear humans more, and also hate them, and possibly attacking the next one they come across.

Probably because 99% of the population are Thai's

Keep them on your property and they will be alive.

The article refers to a feral dog that roams everywhere in groups, at times laying in the middle of the roads.

And....what is your point!?

I asked out city councilman in Bangkok to send animal control out to remove the pack of five soi dogs on our street. He said the shelters were too full and they were busy, so only removed them after they become highly aggressive. I told him the old lady who likes to take a walk now has to carry a stick to scare them away, but that wasn't enough to do anything except send me an emoji with wide-open eyes.

Yes, that would work if some more than the few would do their jobs here. When a population doesn't, it's the government's responsibility to protect their citizens.

All these adjectives, (anyone can think of a list of those) are no vector to being right in any discussion....

Regarding Soi Dog's and Thai people,   many Thai's deserve Bashing,  when the Animal becomes  too big and less Cuddly it gets taken up the Temple to become Budda's Dog,  or as i have seen let loose on the Motorways

I personally witnessed a man die when a soi dog knocked him off his motorbike.

My kid can't ride a bicycle locally and I wouldn't take a walk around because of dogs. heck when I take beach walks I keep eyes peeled for stray packs wanting to challenge me.

If you ride a bicycle and dogs chase you, stop. It's that simple.

They like to chase more than bite. If you cycle away you're encouraging them to chase you.

If you stop, they will stop in fear. 100% guaranteed, UNLESS they're stressed pet dogs that are rarely if ever let out.

Another one who doesn't ride a bicycle in Thailand.

No, spay and neuter, supplied by a government that cares, and increased countrywide is how the population decreases,

There is no proof of that at all and the government does not care and is not doing it. Charities like Soi Dog foundation only keep the population growth down, they have not deceased it. Over more than 20 years they have only done very few animals a day on average, and those dogs are still alive being pests and a problem.

Soi Dog Foundation is funded by donations. "Deceasing dogs" isn't what normal people want. Population control is necessary for all species worldwide. Humans are the problem in all cases. Releasing dogs that are fixed means less are able to populate .  https://www.soidog.org/content/annual-reviews

I've done that on motorbike several times, stop, get off and face the dog because if I ride off it will chase.

Agreed.

Decades ago Thaksin sent out dog hunters and removed many of those soi dogs. Unfortunately that stopped. Don't know why.

Because it isn't the answer.

You obviously don't ride a bicycle.

I'm a bicycle rider and two years ago, thought it would be nice to travel by bike around the countryside.

Then I discovered that the dogs chased me everywhere and were really trying hard to bite my ankles.

I resorted to carrying a thin piece of bamboo which I swung at them, but it still didn't really put them off.

I read somewhere recently that carrying a stun gun is effective against dogs, just to make the noise, not to actually hit them with the voltage.

I posted on here a few years ago that the street dogs in Kanchanaburi were particularly aggressive

and someone said that was nonsense, but last time I was there, the guest house was advising tourists not to walk

down a certain road because the dogs are so dangerous there.

Maybe all well and good, but what does aggressive behavior cause? More of the same. You keep pissing off and hurting more dogs, more will attack others who aren't fast or educated enough to know how to avoid them.

There are more humane ways of dealing with the dog problem.

I do and when dogs approach aggressively, I slow down and make a noise, such as growling back at them. I have only had a few cases of dogs not backing down straight away, but never been bitten when out on a ride or walking. Out in the sticks, every village in my area has stray and feral dogs but these aren't the worst. The worst are those that have owners who let them run loose and are protective of their area. I'm so used to it now, I just laugh it off.

Rather a incorrect saying. Maybe Pay the Price would be better.

Rubbish. They may be wild but they're not stupid.

I use an air pellet gun. It's nonlethal, it's more the sound that scares them, and once they know I'm armed they leave me alone.

You're encountering a few dogs out of millions of encounters here daily, which aren't bites but just bluffs. Again, how you treat dogs is how they treat you.

I've been a dog owner all my life so I know what they're like. I used to visit a place outside Kanchanaburi but I've stopped going now because there's a section of road with so many aggressive dogs that I just gave up on it. Somebody in the thread said just stand still if they're barking at you. I tried that and got surrounded by about 6 angry dogs, all snapping at me. The Thais just stood there and enjoyed watching me deal with their idiotic, untrained dogs. So I just kept swinging my umbrella at them until the backed off.

I like dogs as long as they're friendly but some of those dogs in Thailand should be put down. One stupid dog just teaches all the other dogs to be stupid too. That's why it continues.

Bullcrap when it comes to soi dogs. Both my kids were bit while simply riding their bikes. Years ago but the dogs are not longer with us.
