... along with any suggestions based on what he may do differently now that he's done it.

The OP didn't do, or buy, anything, his late brother-in-law bought the car.

In Thailand its very common for a cars to be purchased on finance and also sold with outstanding finance.      Thus: your Brother In Laws wife should be able to 'sell the car with outst

  • Then it is her problem to solve.

  • My brother in law is my wife's sister.

Haven't read all the previous posts.

Play hardball: In Thailand they load ALL the interest and any fees upfront on the total loan, so there is never any incentive or discount if paying it off.

You may find the debt is now significantly higher than the price of the car.

Next, unless there is a will, it's not hers to sell or dispose of, that's a matter for executor if there is one.If the spouse does anything, without proper legal guidance, just based on assumptions, she could end up in trouble,

The vehicle belongs to the finance company, they will hold the bluebook etc.She has little to no chance of getting anything from it.They will simply reposses it.

240k wasn't the purchase price, it was the purchase price plus the loan interest.

Or what the husband bought it for.

Really?

555 You got me Lou. I meant to say that my brother in law is my wife's sister's husband.

PWP - never a great idea.

Sad that you didn't bother to put all the details in at the beginning, like condition of vehicle, monthly payment amount etc., because somebody perhaps on this forum would have helped out by taking over the payments.

One thing you should've learned by now is its not your problem and stay out of it. That works out best in the long run.

Yes that's usually what I do but he was a great friend for the last 10-15 years and its the least I can do.

Took the vehicle back

They said come and sit down which seemed a good start

They took it back and gave 20k which she was very happy with.

I think they felt sorry for her as well as he hadn't long bought it.

Just goes to show some of the tent owners are very fair

The boss was around 70 years old so I expect that helped

Don't expect many tent owners would have given much or anything at all.
