Thailand has maintained its Tier 2 status in the 2025 US Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report, marking the fourth consecutive year in this category. The report highlights ongoing efforts and significant progress in countering human trafficking. However, it also underscores persistent issues that need addressing.

The US Department of State released the TIP Report on September 29, evaluating the anti-trafficking measures of 188 countries. Kantapong Rangsisawang, permanent secretary at the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, highlighted Thailand's strong collaboration between governmental agencies and civil society. Notable achievements include increased investigations, prosecutions, and convictions related to trafficking, along with enhanced cooperation with foreign governments for victim repatriation.

Thailand introduced an integrated facility to streamline victim identification and referral processes. Officials also updated screening forms and guidelines to better identify forced child labor and criminal exploitation. These updates aim to unify responses across agencies to improve victim support.

Despite advances, the report identifies areas where Thailand falls short of international standards. Inconsistent practices during labor inspections and screenings have left many victims, especially those forced into illegal activities, without recognition or support. Foreign victims often need to stay in shelters during legal proceedings, discouraging some from participating as witnesses.

The report also criticizes corruption and alleged official complicity, particularly in border areas, as significant obstacles to combating trafficking. "While Thailand has made commendable progress, critical gaps still exist," the report states, offering 11 recommendations for improvement. These include enhancing victim identification, standardizing protection services, and addressing corruption.

Kantapong affirmed Thailand's commitment to addressing these issues, with plans to adopt policy reforms aligned with US recommendations.

Key Takeaways

  • Thailand remains at Tier 2 in the US trafficking report, indicating progress but noting deficiencies.
  • The report praises increased investigations but highlights areas like victim identification needing improvement.
  • Corruption and legal constraints for foreign victims are significant challenges identified.

Always trying to be a hub.

This is Trump interfering in the affairs of other countries.

Couple of more years and it will be Thailand announcing what tier the US is in for human rights and trafficking.

I'm sure it's hard to watch the US make a triumphant return to greatness while your country is circling the drain.

Actually it was Kilo Sip outside Uthapao Air Base in the Sixties/Seventies, They closed Kilo Slip and reopened  in a small city between Ban Chang and Rayong named “FreeLand," nothing but bars, resturants, whorehouses.   Pattaya didn’t come on-line until the Thai Army Bulldozed/closed FreeLand.  So I am told   😆

Looks grim. Like the Bangladeshi version on Walking Street.

STI's at every turn no doubt...with lower publich health screening than Thailand.

My g/f did STI screening of sex workers back in day in Loi Kroh Chiang Mai and it was high she said...same with one un-named lower rank uni in Chiang Mai.
