These Youtubers are trying to make money.

So they will romanticize a cafe in the middle of nowhere Thailand.

Yeah, travel halfway across the country for a cafe and streets that look the same as everywhere else in Thailand.

It's better to travel less, save money and travel outside the country to see something completely different than go to every remote corner of Thailand.

It costs more money to go overseas.

How underwhelming must your life be before you start to believe that taking a road trip on an underpowered motorbike to Lopburi is a great idea? Or that taking any kind of road trip on a two wheeled vehicle in Thailand is a good idea? Or that going to Lopburi at all is better than just staying home?

Always love me some Padds.

He got the best drone footage on YT.

No way. Check out foresty forest channel. Stunning drone footage.

Yep, make fewer trips within Thailand and save up for another country, where everything will be different, including the food.

So where are you going?

I don’t mind Paddy, his videos are okay, he mixes it up nicely with a simple night market, some great drone footage of the floating train and the unexpected, and pleasantly untouristy magnificent Buddha statue.

A simple view of the resort mixed with some nice footage from the bike is much more preferable, to me, than gushing over the variety of iced beverages available at some trendy new cafe that other YouTubers waste so much screen time on.

While the central region is not the most picturesque, Lopburi, Singburi, Saraburi etc, there are some hidden gems and good to see Paddy avoiding the obvious monkey mayhem of Lopburi centre, and yes I do think the flatlands with the occasional mountain popping up is stunning.

My kind of road trip, finding new things along the way with a leisurely trip to pastures new, acknowledging the locals with a pleasant Sawasdee Khrap.

Obviously not everyone’s idea of a fun time but great experience in my opinion.

Is this a tourist forum or an expat forum? Most of the members here are well into their fifties and sixties and seldom travel much around Thailand, let alone leave their residences. You are barking up the entirely wrong tree. Perhaps one day you might start a topic that offers genuine insight and is of use to expats in Thailand, though that would first require a modicum of knowledge about Thailand. Until then, your hopes are entirely misplaced. Instead, you will likely continue posting unnecessary videos like these from people who share your pedestrian view of Thailand, all the while imagining you have uncovered yet another hidden tomb in Egypt.

It´s both a tourist and an expat forum. If you consider some topics lacking what you deem as quality threads, maybe you should just pass and leave them alone.

I havent ventured out too much, but I'm guessing it all looks the same.

Lopburi probably has nothing else apart from those monkeys.

We always find new and interesting things.  It's nice just getting away from the house and local town, which we see everyday.  Helps us appreciate all the more also.  Why we don't spend too much time along the coastline, as our local bays are some of the prettiest.

We don't stay on the main roads as much, like the first times visiting places, as that's where some of the gems are that we drove past in prior trips O&A.

Troll posts removed. @Alpha84, if you're only here to clutter the thread with insults, and have nothing sensible to add, then please visit a thread that interests you. Please do it voluntarily, or you'll be removed from the conversation. Thank you.

Truly seasoned adults and long-term residents are scarcely interested in such trivialities. The distinction between a well-established expat and a newcomer is immediately apparent with comments like this. The latter remains enamored with quirky hotels and trendy cafes, still chasing ephemeral thrills because they have yet to acquire the discernment that comes with experience. Genuine expats, by contrast, concern themselves with environs and lifestyle rather than superficial, transient venues. Such preoccupations are, naturally, the province of the uninitiated.

Unfortunately, no one can be told what the real Thailand is. You have to see it for yourself.

Recently entertained folks from the US.

They took guided tours every chance they got.

I accompanied them on some, ironically taking the guided tours they managed to avoid contact with all but one Thai person, the guide.

For example on one tour they were chatting merrily with 3 Brits and 2 Israelis, all of whom were charming people, but the only Thai they encountered was the guide.

I don't get it.

Photos and itineraries, going to all the places that other tourists like them said were "must see".

Really? I thought people have different opinions, and that they like different things, or are your opinions and what you like the right way? As I see it you can just continue to stay home, and live that underwhelming life you are talking about. When you are tired looking at the walls, try the TV.

Youtubers have taken over or google maps and google.

The part in a YouTube where they always go to a quirky coffee bar and over exaggerate how unique the coffee is Is an immediate fast-forward for me.

See also: when they are completely agog at the same Banksy-lite street art that you now see in virtually every city in the world.

A new format is needed. Problem : if they go smarter, like talking about an old stupa, people tune out.

Just like travel itself has become more ordinary, watching travel third hand at home has become more ordinary still.

Travel is less unique due to big companies, malls etc. I travel to avoid toxic people.

I prefer 'itchy boots' on you tube she makes amazing vids, with drone footage and nice music added, she was in Pakistan and has just gone into Afghanistan on her motorbike, she is always positive.

Never heard of it, till Doyle mentioned his book deal in a previous vid.  LP & RG are fairly obsolete now, with the internet.  Though handy if travel to places without internet.

As crappy as the LP was 20+ years ago, it did come in handy with some basic recommendations and city maps, as only maps for Bangkok were available at most shops.   TAT offices came in handy back then for local maps, and first stop when visiting a province for the first time.  Packed full of pamphlets, adverts or guide books, hotel listings & ph#s.  Great info from staff.   Can't remember the last time I popped into a TAT office.

Amazing how I managed to see the whole country without GPS back then, but now I'm lost getting back home just exploring locally.   Not that getting lost is a bad thing.   So familiar with most of the country, I don't even need GPS, but habitually use for the shortest trips.  So much so, I usually ignore how I got somewhere, and need it to get back to hotel :cheesy:

I don't think anyone under 30 knows how to even read a paper map.

I won't hop on a plane, so Mickey Stotch and Paddy Doyle will have to do for a tip or 2 for TH.

I really can't be bothered with the rest ... 'OMG / secret gem' folks ... that most already know about, or simply follow Mark Wein, and state how 'they' discovered this new hidden dining gem.   Love it when they spew their totally incorrect history or knowledge of a place or culture.

Maybe it's rhetorical, as in 'Could care less'  if that's even possible, without stated the obvious.

What next, spelling errors or use of double negatives ... :coffee1:

I'm a bit hesitant to say you need to get out more though especially as your in your last year's of life

Thanks for your service Sir

Not when you're an American, or more specifically, a Yank, unless offended by, then maybe just USA citizen.

Having a sense of humour, or is that humor.  Guess it depends on your flavour, or is that flavor ?

I just go have a 'fag' now ... or not :cheesy:
