Just try to take an ounce of Pork to Saudi and show the customs guy there...

Whatever your beliefs are, you have to follow the local rules.

Saw a Muslim Thai girl working the till in Big-C the other day. The person on line in front of me had some bags of minced pork. She put gloves on to handle it.

Theoretically, the table that upped and left could have spent well in excess of 20,000 baht for their lunch considering they were a group of around 10 people.   The locals lose out again.

The french family (around 10 people) certainly seemed to think so! Another local business bites the dust..

What a waste of a thread. Anyone who has been here more than a few days learns that any mom and pop store will sell you generic beers on any days.

Drinking in Thailand is like owning an electric car. Plan A  H   E    A     D.

If you had even bothered to read my OP you would know that this happened in a restaurant where the family of 10 ADULTS were refused a glass of wine with their meals.

They up and left, leaving the locals out of pocket.

What should they have done? Gone to a mom and pop shop 2 miles away and brought 4 bottles in with them to the restaurant??

Next time think before you type!

It shouldn't be an issue.

As it's mostly,  only pretend Buddhism in Thailand. :coffee1:

As said Ma & Pa shops will sell, my local one will deliver min of 3 and still only pay 60b for a large Leo.

And surely the Thais didn't give a toss.

It is bad for tourism and you know it!

Marginally. Nothing to call home about. Every single country will have some law that does not appeal to foreigners. If one cannot agree, just stay in your home country and be stress free.

In fact, getting on board an aircraft it self has its own set of rules - does that stop people flying? Yes, maybe a handful.

Of course, I`m not going to break the law of country and I have to obey it. Even if I don't respect that particular law. These are schizoid thought forms in their heads that keep believers in fear, and they've become law. These are their problems; they must sort it out themselves. I don't insult their beliefs. Someday they will become enlightened. But we must be realistic: it will likely take several generations.

She did it right - kudos to her!

But I doubt if a Saudi customs officer would do the same, and wave you off

Oh really??

Is that why during covid millions lined the streets looking for handouts and meals cos no foreigners = no money???

THINK about it.

Danish back bacon is actually a very effective weapon against Muslims.

Roast Lechon, however, is something else entirely!

So with your pathetic one line response - are you suggesting that people working in tourist zones weren't looking for handouts during covid?

Such a short memory you must have...

In most countries people were looking for handouts during covid - you compare that with this day?

First post I have made on this thread. How could that be stalking bob?

Drugs and booze are destroying society all over. No exception for Thailand.

Yes, we all love a glass of wine, two maybe. Perhaps a light nightcap after a good dinner. A good Cognac. Amaretto or whatever...

But on seeing the abuse of booze and the drunks all over and when they mix with drugs and the devastating consequences ... at one point on going to some extreme I agree, I would understand a total ban of alcohol and drugs globally with harsh sentences to those who don't stay on the line.

The horror all those alcoholics must endure for a day. Devastating.

Same old nonsense. This is about a completely ridiculous law in a land where millions of Thais will be imbibing on these Budhist alcohol sales ban days. What's the point?

no wonder nobody is coming to Thailand anymore!

Complete b0llocks, millions are still coming to Thailand!   The alcohol restrictions are something that has been in force for generations, it is not something new that should affect the opinions of tourists coming today, particularly those of an entitled Frenchman.

i thought hotels and restaurants were always allowed to serve alcohol on Thai holidays, just not bars, pubs etc.. Shows how much I know,

BTW what Thai holiday is it today? I looked up a list and it didn't show today. Only one next week 13th for  the old King.

Buddhist holiday today ?

Not on my calendar.

So it is not a bank holiday .

Since this is my thread and my poll i'm going to request closure please.

Results : 53.85% in favor of non Buddhists being allowed to purchase alcohol on so called holy days, whilst 46.15% don't think they should.

Thank you to everyone who voted.

Realized it was a no alcohol day before setting out. Their hotel will have advised if asked. If they live here they should no better.

Not a huge deal.

Used to be OK to consume alcohol at the hotel if you are resident there or if you look like you should be.  Maybe it is not anymore.

I do read content but not if it is too long or designed as a trigger.
