she had responded to a Facebook post offering money to people willing to open “mule accounts” used for financial transactions.

Hope she is prosecuted for this. Being a "victim" does not absolve her from responsibility for a crime she admitted to commiting.

Later, the group accused her of stealing 200,000 baht and threatened her with violence if she did not admit guilt.

Sounds....elaborate. More to the story for sure. There would be no reason for them to claim this if they kidnapped her anyway.

Come on, she's 20. Doesn't have 100+ years of experience most posters on this forum have.

  • So she is not quite the innocent victim here and was quite prepared to get into nefarious activities!

  • Who let these scumbags in to Thailand?

they don't advertise it though.

how do you recommend sniffing out the criminal element?

If what she says is true, they literally were advertising. On Facebook.

20 is old enough to know opening a mule account for a foreign gang is illegal. Can't be stupid enough to not know.

Ehhhhh the Thais. 🤷🏼

Ms. Pimnipa managed to trick her captors by pretending to need her phone back to contact a friend about opening more accounts. Instead, she secretly messaged her brother for help and included the hotel’s location, enabling police to act quickly.

I thought that the Chinese were smarter than that. Reminds me of the Saudi girl who absconded from her strict parents. Traveled to Thailand and the Thais were to dumb to take her phone away and she was relaying the whole saga on social media.

She was exploited to a point... but it all started with her volunteering her services.

Maybe in the future she will be a bit more careful about opening mule accounts for the Chinese.

Maybe the police will teach her the error of her ways.

Well it sounds like she simply allowed her personal account to be made use of to launder money through. I suspect a few hundred farang accounts got frozen because of her!

I hope the police educate her in that she was facilitating illegal practices.
