Life Certificate Certifying for Maintaining Pension Payments

Featured Replies

I have been requested by one of my Norwegian Private Pension providers to get a Life Certificate signed and stamped by a Government Authority in Thailand with example Authorities included as a Post Office or the Police.

Just wondering if any Members have any experience of using the Immigration Police or the Post Office for such a purpose.

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Do they not accept a stamp from the embassy, assuming the embassy is still willing to help their own abroad ?

Yes but we live in Udonthani so it is easier if I can get it done here.

Not them, but our local police captain has witnessed my last 2 UK State Pension life certs.

I've found the tourist police in Udon Thani to be very friendly, maybe you could ask them if that's something they do (or, at least, could point you in the right direction).

Suggest to your governments to do it like in Germany since this year. The request to do a life certificate contains a barcode which can be scanned with your phone.

You can than do a short video with your passport in hand. Done in minutes in the privacy of your home.

very curious to know, do you qualify for your pension because you are a citizen of Norway? I've had years of arguments with the Danish govt. their argument is that there is no tax treaty with Thailand (which is untrue). But Pensions Denmark is insulated (also I'd describe it as ''isolated, imo''  ) from any decent level of communication.

I am a British Citizen but I worked in Norway for 32 years so I receive pensions from Norway also because of the Tax Treaty with Thailand I get all my tax paid back from Norway every year. I use a Scandinavian Tax Law office based in Thailand to help achieve this.

Here is a Link maybe thay can help you?

Many thanks to all Members for comments.

We went first today to the local Amphur Office and they said that they can stamp, sign and date the Life Certificate but that we must first get the Form translated (English and Norwegian text) into Thai. I didnt ask about certifying my Passport Copy.

After this we decided to go to the Main Udonthani Police Station and they directed us to the Udonthani Immigration Office.

At the Udonthani Immigration Office the Lady who normally does my yearly PE Visa Extension stamped signed and dated the Life Certificate Form but said that she could not certify my Passport Copy and recommended we contact the Embassy in Bangkok. I had to pay 1000 for this.

We then went to a local Notarius Publicus Lawyer Office that we have used before and they said they could certify the Passport Copy for 5000 and then after I said no dropped the price to 3000 and then again to 2000 which I agreed to pay. Other Lawyer Offices have previously quoted 3000.

Tomorrow will go to the Post Office and send it.

So all in all we nearly used the whole day for this and paid 4000 just because thieves have been claiming pensions illegally amazing

Unfortunately it seems very expensive in your neck of the woods.

Last time I got a lawyer to sign my passport copy some years ago it was 500 and doubt it is more than 1000 now....

5000 baht sounds more like highway robbery

The Tourist Police Office (just off Nong Prajak) have an office upstairs which is signposted as for 'Proof of Life' in Udon Thani.

Costs 500 baht.

I use the City Hall. VERY easy and takes only a minute.

Before I tried the Police. But obviously not every officer is entitled to sign. So it was a long time for waiting.

I didn't try the immigration yet

My doctor at the local hospital does my life certificate for free.

The UK govt. pension dept does not have a requirement for verifying passport.

Indeed it does not. However, I do have my doubts as to whether a doctor in a local hospital would count as "a Government Authority in Thailand with example Authorities included as a Post Office or the Police" in the OP's case.

Yes, but the witnessing criteria to which the OP is subject by his Norwegian private pension provider appear to be even more restrictive than those which DWP impose on us UK State Pensioners at life cert witnessing time!

You could well be right. Different countries have different ideas on this, but the DWP in the UK lists doctors as an acceptable professional person.

A Thai friend signs mine and has done for years, never a problem

Did have the Town Hall do it, Free but need to see the Junta and the rubber stamp is Red and very large.. [been on there system since 2004 so always get proof of address from them FREE]

I used to go to the District Office, they put a stamp on the form sent by the pension office of my country (Belgium).

It was sometimes difficult because the employee wanted a translated document. I made that translation, but changed the method to avoid that issue.

My embassy certifies the document, providing I add a picture of myself holding a recent newspaper, fee:free. All by email...

Thanks once again to all members for comments.

Just before I intended to send the forms to Norway I sent a photo copy of the documents by email to my Pension Provider and to my amazement they confirmed that the documents had been received and are being registered and that I dont need to send in the Post.

I was quite suprised and glad for this.

Good luck to all with your Life Certificates

I use Udon Thani Immigration  !
It costs ThB 1000, then I send it Back to the Pension Provider, by EMS  !

Lucky you! In the case of the UK State Pension, DWP flatly refuse to accept witnessed life certs emailed to them, only those returned to them by snail mail!!

I use my  doctor here in Bangkok when I go for my medical check up she signs

Has done for the last 3 years

Immigration will do it for 500 baht.

I get my Dutch one done here at Samui Immigration.

I use a police officer in a police box. Needs a stamp. 200 baht
