Do I need first 90 day report to get a residence certificate?

Featured Replies

Hi, I will be doing my first 90 day report at chaengwattana for a Non O Marriage visa this month.  I also need a residence certificate to renew my 5 year Thai DL.  Does anyone know if they need the first 90 day report to be done before I can apply for the residence certificate?  I have read that this is no longer a requirement, but there is conflicting information.

I'm thinking about the timing here, everything is coming at the same time.  I have been waiting for 2 months to get a Yellow book also, but the Amphur is "busy".  Thanks.

Previously a 90 day report was required to obtain a COR at CW.

Couple of years ago that requirement was removed

OP, since you plan to renew TDL this thread may be helpful.

I did a report of my last renewal in Bangkok.

No you do not
To get a certificate of residence at Chaengwattana Immigration office in Bangkok this is how it works

You need copies of

  • data page of your passport
  • visa
  • most recent entry stamp
  • extension
  • TM30 receipt (the notification of foreigner in residence)

You go to the new special 90 day report/TM30/certificate of resident room out at the government complex Building B, on the THIRD floor (a floor above the main immigration office where you got your extension done)

You fill out the form, pay 200baht, they give you a receipt with a thai post EMS tracking number on it and they mail the Certificate of Residence to the address you have your TM30 filed on under in about 5 days

Thank you for your replies.  Is the earliest I can go for the 90 day report 15 days before the date, and can also go 7 days after?  Many thanks.

That's correct however the 7 days after is somewhat "grace period"

IMO avoid that and do the report prior to due date.

I once did a 90 report in person and a COR same visit to CW.

The io did the 90 followed by the COR.

Here is clear guide to 90 reporting

True Non O has expired, however subsequent passports have reference to that expired Non O.

I always include photocopy of that entry.

Will be very first in new passport.

I just got an appointment to get a Yellow book from my local amphur, next week.  Therefore, might not need the COR.

I've read elsewhere that  I can do my first 90 day report by mail instead of slogging it up to CW.   Is this correct?  If so, what is the process.  Is it still the same as in the link previously sent by Dr. Jack: https://share.google/LcEwMOmKeLPmZ5N4E ?   Many thanks.

Should be accepted. If not approved your plan would be to attend in person up till 7 days after due date.

The process is outlined in earlier link I posted above.

Also discussion in this thread.

Note: if using Mail option do that 15 days prior to due date

You mentioned in OP...

" I also need a residence certificate to renew my 5 year Thai DL"

In the past a yellow book was possible for TDL however you will find now a COR is required.

Thanks for your reply.  Just to make sure I understand completely, a Yellow book is not accepted to renew a 5 year Thai DL?  I will still need a COR even with a yellow book?  Thanks

When I post that a  COR is now required for TDL issue and renewal some folk will post... "Nonsense I renewed mine with Pink ID" etc.

That was true in the past and perhaps even now up country etc.

You are applying in Bangkok. I'm pretty sure most transport offices will want the COR.

Here is thread re COR and first post I included the form you use.

If renewing car + bike just get one COR and photocopy.

Transport office ok with that.

Hi Dr Jack,  thanks for all your replies.  Just looking back at the comments.  Noting that you mention to "tick car on the form for COR" or I will have to pay for 2 CORs,  I do have to renew both car and Motorcycle.

How does checking just the car selection on the form avoid having to get 2 COR's?  I have read they need 2 original CORs at DLT - one for car and one for motorcycle.

Ah, just read your other comment about a photocopy being alright at DLT.  Is this so?  I will be going to Area 3 (Sukhumvit Bang Chak- if that makes any difference)

My personal experience was if renewing both at same time the the photocopy was accepted.

You might decide, given it's only 200b to obtain two COR.

Don't forget the medical certificate.

Aside: what month birthday. Assume you are aware of obtaining TDL. after next birthday provides extra up to year.

My B Day month is November.  How would I get extra time?  Do you mean if I renew after B day, I will get extra time?   I would have to wait a few days till after expiry date correct?

Yes.

Renew after your next birthday and the 5 years will start from date of next birthday.

In your example you will obtain 6 years.

General info: A TDL can be renewed up to 12 months after expiry.

Just learned this.  Many thanks!

Concerning the Thai renewal DL, I have just read on another thread that foriegners cannot walk in to Bang Chak (area 3) to renew and must make an appointment online.  Does anyone know if this is correct?  I have just attempted to make an appointment but they are more than a month booked in advance- making my COR void.  Thanks.

The other 2 DLTs in BKK are also booked pretty solid but could possibly get in under the wire.  So, I'd rather walk in if possible.

I also just read that you must go to the DLT nearest your TM 30/ COR address?  That doesnt sound right.  Does anyone know if this is true?  Many thanks

Don't believe that's the case

Contact  an agent for advice. Doesn't mean you use them.

BSR bikes are helpful. USA owner (think name Mark).

Agent may be able to obtain a slot.

I used them when covid was on and VERY limited slots.

When I did my last renewal I went to Chatuchuk transport office to make booking and returned next day for "test"

Not sure if it's still the case but they used to let you do the 90 day report submission when doing the COR at CW - This was with a COR appointment.

I believe if it's overdue you will need the 90 day report to get the COR, however if not due yet then it's fine.

I thought LOR letter of Residents were free ??

Did you read my earlier posts re COR at CW.

No longer requires a 90 day report.

Previously was required.

I'm not sure this is correct, they wanted a copy of my 90 day receipt when I last did one in ~August this year, my understanding is what has changed is the requirement of the 90 day report  for COR where you have arrived from overseas and have not needed to report yet

25 minutes ago, redinvestor said:

Think you will find it has changed at CW.

Previously it was required that to obtain a COR at CW you need to have made a TM47 previously.

As pointed out in this link.

https://www.thethailandlife.com/residence-certificate-thailand

In that link it specifically states re CW:

"Please note: To get a residence certification you need to be doing 90-day reports to immigration"

That was changed. A TM30 should suffice. Lease would also be good.

If you have one, I'm sure they'll require it.  But not having done one, is no longer the 100% dealbreaker that it used to be.  Some people cannot actually have ever done a 90 day report.

PHUKET:
u can get a cor on a visa exempt entry ( I did)
Its FREE   ( if u want wait a week)
otherwise ikts 500 baht ( takes about 45 minutes

Yes this in my understanding as what the change was as people were getting stuck where they could not get a COR when they had just re-entered, I think if you have one due or overdue they are going to want it done before issuing the COR

It's a certificate of resistance  (COR) and it's not free at most offices.

One example is CW = 200B

And don't expect to be issued with a receipt for however much you pay your office for a COR either, I believe. Certainly I wasn't issued with one for the ฿500 I shelled out for a COR at Rayong a couple of weeks ago.
