NO.

Meanwhile, two Israeli tourists were arrested for passing counterfeit US 50 dollar bills. Around 15 of the fake bills. TBH, though, that doesn't mean they were deliberately passing on counterfeit cash. They might have got it in Israel before flying here. And it sounds like they did it only once at the same money changer (Thai Government Bank kiosk).

 

I've often wondered how I would know if I changed THB (for example) into USD at a money changer, that I was given legitimate dollars and not fakes. I'm no expert, nor are the vast majority of tourists. These kinds of reports make me think twice about changing money - especially into USD (anywhere).

 

Maybe the thing to do is take a photo of the bills on your phone at the actual kiosk with the serial numbers showing and the teller in the photo? Though not a perfect solution, it might be a defense if someone accuses you of passing a fake bill. If you can't prove where you got it, you're sunk.
