Do you like Thai food, really?

My wife is Thai, but does not cook Thai dishes; she only cooks Western food. The only time she eats Thai food is when we are on Holiday in Thailand and I cook myself Western food .

Same experience. Whenever I was in a relationship, the girl adjusted to my preferred Western food habits, which made the occasional Thai food bearable.

Yes, Thao food is "Great." After about 3 months, I am looking for a Good Hamburger here in Ubon that is hard to find. So I go ahead and order at McDonalds and that works till I make it to Bangkok.

Thai food is so over rated but it tastes much better because Thais are the masters at making dips loaded with sugar.

I feel sorry for you that you don't have someone to cook Thai food for you with care and love.  My wife's cooking is done so carefully and with great attention to healthy ingredients (and not much sugar!).  She also cooks American, Italian, some Japanese and some Hawaiin dishes.

If you rely on street vendors/restaurants, I agree, you have to kiss a lot of frogs before finding the Prince.  Learn to speak Thai enough to ask around where the quality vendors/restaurants are and what their best dishes are.  It can save you a lot of time.  About 90% of the Thai words that I know have to do with FOOD!

I have been living in Thailand for over twenty years and my wife is Thai and I would have to say that most Thai food is oil soaked, unbearably spicy and of extremely poor quality. So we rarely ever eat it and only at the best restaurants.

No need for me to learn Thai, everybody in my Thai family speaks English

It's not cooking but for taste.

Mango & Sticky rice.

Is just heaven . :licklips::licklips:

I once wrote that we eat together: I cook my food, and she eats her Isaan food which could choke a Billy goat.

What's that like? Burritos? lol.

No, he's talking ethnic food. Traditional Italian, Polish and Jewish. Pizza, pasta, sandwiches, Pierogis, Stew, breads, salads, Clam Chowder, Cheesesteaks, and killer seafood.

As far as the OP, Thai food in the US is as good or better then here, besides some restaurants here. They use chicken breast, less sugar and oil. Cleaner conditions that are under scrutiny, and people from Thailand who moved there to open restaurants. Here, if you have a decent cook, which my girlfriend is, you can have healthy and tasty, but some of the shops and stalls aren't using fresh and a lot of oil is used, along with meat being left out all day.

That may be your opinion but not the opinion of any Thai who lives or visits America. There it is so watered down it does not even taste Thai. May be why in LA home to a lot of Thai's the best Thai food is found at Wat Thai. Every weekend they create a giant outdoor food court at fair prices and it a vibrant fun day out with real Thai food. The same up in the Bay area with the temple in Berkeley being the food center scene.

I actually have talked to many Thais who moved to the US and opened restaurants. I loved Thai food all my life, and had it in New Jersey and Texas. They were all from Thailand. One had 2 restaurants in San Antonio that was from Korat. Some restaurants have cooks other than Thais, who were taught, and their food does taste different, even though they followed the Thai's cooking advice.

Every time I visit any one of around 20+ Thai restaurants in the San Antonio or Austin metro area, I see other Thais eating there. They know where to go, just as they do here.

Thais have adapted to more quality control in the US, as the restaurants have to be inspected, but they still use the same ingredients they do here, as they come from here. Those two I visited almost weekly were close to my work, and I got to know them very well, and talked to them about how good their food was. They are packed every lunch and dinner for many years, and many customers are other Thais. When I moved here, their food is still better than most all I've eaten here for over 7 years, and again, it's because their cooks were all from Thailand. The only ones who come close is my girlfriend and my ex, along with a couple of restaurants (not stalls) and I've eaten Thai every week at least 2 times for all those years.

When we go out to eat it usually all seafood dishes together with an order of steamed rice. Deep fries seas bass with herbs and spices, shrimp tamarind, scallops is half shell with butter and garlic, shrimp cakes fresh made, seafood curry dishes and whatever else the ole lady and kid want to try.

We have one favorite restaurant for take out and we eat the usual dishes and cook at home the same usual dishes. The only western food happens when I bake chicken, cook salmon or I buy some good steaks.

I stopped eating take out noodle soups or anything from street vendors except for snacky foods.

Cross into Sisaket and go to Leo's or Hong Kong Garden. If you don't want mayo, tell Leo's that when you order.

Som Tam is used as a contraceptive all over Thailand.  Most bar girls eat this when they want a three day holiday from sex. I've walked past bars because I could smell it 40  yards upwind.

I often go away feeling empty in the stomach after certain Thai food.  Maybe it's all the crap additives?

7-Eleven snacks always leave me wanting more.

Never feel 'full' unless have a nice juicy soon-to-be-banned beef hamburger, American style.

Pad Krapow is very good though.

Good quality Thai food is a remarkable thing to behold, and it is probably the only cuisine that I can eat daily without getting tired of. Yum.

I like most Thai food with the exception of Pla Ra, puu, mae daeng and Pad Thai.

I used to eat the heck out of Somtum Puu until I put the words Paddy and Poop together.

Never Thai food.
Airfryer for lunch and dinner. With experience, I know perfectly well how to cook meat and vegetables in the same pot with very little fat, most often replaced by broth.
Alternating between beef, chicken, duck, mutton, pork, and fish stored in a large freezer also alternating between fries and rice, always with a little green vegetable.
At local restaurants with girls, I often miss my own cooking.

Thai food is pretty good, but my preference is authentic Mexican food in Mexico. Coming in second would be Brazilian food, followed by Thai food at number three.

The only time I ate in Mexico was at a ranch I was hinting at. They killed a goat and it was the first time I had one, along with other food while I stayed there, and it was pretty good. Living around San Antonio for 32 years I had quite a bit of Mexican food, although the best was at the higher priced restaurants. Always get Chicken Fajitas when I'm driving around, with Pico De Gallo. Tried South American beef at a restaurant in San Antonio also, and the beef was first class.

LOL... mine too, but occasionally they're not with me and I need to have a simple conversation with Thais to find a good vendor/dish.

This forum attracts a lot of whining bitches.

Thai food is generally considered to be one of the top eight cuisines of the world.

Thai restaurants popular worldwide.

But Fatty Forum Farang can’t stop complaining.

Next topic they will be complaining the weather is too cold.

And.... I don't listen to those who see Thailand through an incredibly small window..... because I eat excellent Thai food 90% of the time.  Don't foist your limited abilities and effort on to Thailand.

I agree.... most noodle dishes by street vendors should not be eaten.  Close to the rental we had when we first moved to CM we came across a very friendly noodle vendor and my wife asked him to make a special version for us without the processed meatballs, fish balls and whatever.  He also adds more chopped greens, cilantro and bean sprouts.  We pay 5฿ extra for a more healthy dish.

One of my favorites absolutely, and a good Chu Chee Curry with fresh squid is quite incredible too. So is a great Tom Yum when it's made with high quality chili paste, and some of the fish dishes are great too. The list goes on.

Wrong coast.

More like Baked Clams Oreganata, seafood chowder, or BBQ!

Chipotle is all over the east coast now too though isn't it? Seems burritos have become a staple of the American diet on the east coast now as well.
