Buying a truck - recommendations

Featured Replies

Thinking of getting a truck next year - possibly when they do deals at one of the motor shows.

My preference is for a new Rocco 2.8 4wd....but any other options worth considering?

A used car about 4-5 years old would be around half price...but even Toyota seem to be doing deals on vehicles....a guy on a FB group got 131k discount on a new one!

If buying new, do yourself a favor and peek at Riddara RD6 (BEV - full electric), if a dealer near you.

That would be my choice, though not for everyone.  No recommendation for an ICE truck, as I'd never own one myself.

What do you need it to do ?

Potter about...put bicycle in the back...go travelling around and up country. Nothing too strenuous.

Can't go wrong with a Toyota Hilux Rocco. Bullet proof. Look after it and it'll be good for 30 years. Buy new for peace of mind and warranty.

I really like the Smart Cab Prerunner 2x4 2.4   -  I don’t need 4 doors, cost is around 900,000 baht, price for 2025 should go down around Xmas time.

Work out which model you interested in , if your not bothered about colour

you will see in the facebook group pages for your model there will be some vehicles with 10% discount  and some models with a 20-25% discount

all will be 2026 models but

2026 models with a late 2025 (October onwards ) manufacturer build date will have the higher % discount

2026 models with a 2026 manufacturer build date will have the lower % discount ( plus you get to select colour)

if you use a online insurance checker you will see the online insurance normally a 2025 build date has a lower capital value amount than a 2026 build date

Your use case is ideal for the Riddara electric

Was thinking the same thing, and charging at home, can save 30k-40k baht a year vs paying for petrol, if driving about 15k-20k kms a year.   Ball park guess using my own savings estimate using PEA vs petrol, for our BEV.

I peeked at the RiDDARA RD6, and it's really nice, starts @ 899k THB.  If there was a local dealer, I think there'd be one parked in the driveway.   Might peek again at the Auto Show, end of 2025, early 2026 😎
