Police in Bangkok have dismantled a foreign-led criminal syndicate operating from a barbershop, uncovering a secret drug den. A raid in the Watthana district led to the arrest of eight suspects from countries such as Egypt, Myanmar, Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Thailand. Officers discovered the shop was a front, finding drugs and paraphernalia hidden throughout the premises.

This operation followed extended surveillance in the Nana area, where undercover officers observed foreign nationals enticing tourists with drugs. Utilizing sniffer dogs, police found narcotics concealed in everyday items like a juice blender. The raid resulted in the seizure of ecstasy, crystal meth, cocaine, meth pills, magic mushrooms, contraband cigarettes, and cash exceeding 125,000 baht.

The ringleader, a Thai national named Chalongkwan, along with Egyptian suspect Mina Farouk, denied involvement. Despite these claims, investigators assert the group operated as an organized network with suspected transnational links. Police report that individuals involved intimidated locals and tourists, harming Thailand’s reputation.

In response, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom has initiated a comprehensive crackdown on similar crimes, promising to enhance safety for both residents and tourists. Authorities aim to dismantle networks connected to these operations and restore public confidence.

Key Takeaways

  • Eight suspects from multiple countries were arrested in the raid.
  • Drugs and cash were discovered hidden in the barbershop turned drug den.
  • Police have launched a full-scale crackdown on transnational crime groups.

Good work

Guess I'm going to have to look for a new Pakistani barber now. Good things never last.

Bangkok police arrested six foreign men, a Thai woman and a Myanmar woman at a barber shop on Nana Road (Sukhumvit Soi 3) where they said drugs were available.

Police said that while walking on Nana Road at 11pm on Wednesday, plainclothes officers were greeted by two foreign men who offered them drugs.

The foreigners then brought the undercover policemen to a barber shop on the top floor of a five-storey building on Nana Road. They were taken to a secret room where the suspects showed them pills priced at 2,000 baht each.

The headline states, " Foreign-Led Drug Ring Busted at a Barbershop". Then goes on to state, "The ringleader, a Thai national named Chalongkwan, along with Egyptian suspect Mina Farouk",

Should not the headline have  stated a Thai-led Drug ring and foreigners were involved?

One word: Tourism

Now, what about all the drug pushers walking up and down Sukhumvit Road 24/7, or are they "protected"?
