No, they're not, where has that been credibly reported that all the retirees who can are selling up?   One or two may have done, how many to your personal knowledge have done so?

It appears that you may perhaps be a member of the "No Tourists Are Coming To Thailand Now Club"

There are foreigners working as "Thai Tourist Police"? I thought they only used some volunteers for interpreting, but these guys look like regular policemen.

Well, they're not, they're volunteers.

No ,  the police tried the lock on every hotel room  in pattaya until they found a door where the key fitted the lock and then let him in his room.

Reminds me of Cinderella and the Glass Slipper.  Find the door that the key fits and it yours.

Not surprising the retirees, who can.... are selling off their property in Thailand and chosing other more friendly countries to set up base.

you sound bitter

They looking nothing like regular policemen. The clue is they have large letters on their fronts that say "Tourist Police". Regular cops also wear brown color uniforms.

I am sure quite a number of guys do....... one sees many man bags around town. Perhaps not confident of the room safe, if it even exists.

Everytime I do my one year visa renewal I go to the same copy shop I've been going to for many years. I then put my passport in the safe so I've always got a back up if anything should happen. I'm not sure if a passport copy is allowed everywhere in Thailand, I've been told it's only in Pattaya and probaly Phuket areas where tourists get bombed and are prone to losing things.

I totally agree but seriously how can a person get lost in Pattaya

I helped a Brit in his 70s who had been drugged and had his shoes stolen along with his other possessions.  Whatever drug was used on him almost completely wiped his memory.  Pretty scary.

Maybe Scopalomine. It's been used here before to rob victims.
