Domestic flights

Featured Replies

Is an original passport now required for all airlines operating domestic flights within Thailand, or is a Thai driving license accepted with copy of passport and visa?

Take both and first show only the former...and if refused, then show the latter.

Thanks. I should have mentioned, my passport is away for renewal, so i'm looking for anyone that has flown without passport and used Thai driving license only and possibly copies of passport and visa.

I think it might depend on the airline and airport unfortunately.

A mate of mine flew from Phitsanulok to Bangkok using his Thai drivers license, but he wasn't allowed to return using it.

He did this as had to go to the Australian Embassy to replace his lost passport.

Thanks. Yes, my passport isn't lost it's away for renewal, but I might need to travel domestically before I receive my new one. It would be great to hear from anyone who has experienced this and which airlines accept Thai driving license only.

The only requirement is for photo ID...no passport required and certainly no visa information.

I never use my passport for domestic flights, but I always carry it with me.

I think it would certainly be worth checking with an airline prior to travel if you have any doubts.

Its being renewed, when you do that, the original is sent off with the application, then returned with the new one.

Sent off to where?

Mine is a British passport and I renewed last week at VfS and retained the old passport.

Presumably you sent yours to an agent?

My Thai driving license has always been accepted, i do take my passport as you never know what the check in agent or check at boarding gate will ask for, in seems to vary day to day person to person

No, you presume wrongly, but it's irrelevant really. It's the travelling without one im looking to get information on

Not prying, just interested to know how you managed to become parted from your passport.

As I said earlier check directly with the airline and don't rely on experiences of others........because those experiences vary - and conflict.

You are asking silly questions not related to the OP's question on his domestic travel...why complicate things.

Because without the facts you can't give best advice.

If he used an agent to process his passport renewal he has the option to retrieve the old passport from the agent. If he has sent to passport off to an embassy (or fraudulently to the UK, for example) then his options are limited.

Still think the questions are silly?

Silly, intrusive and irrelevant. Yes.

Maybe the OP can use the train or the bus instead. But there's no guarantees they may not ask for a passport either.

I've no idea why some are so passport-averse when it comes to domestic air travel. Is it a perception of not wanting to be mistaken for just another tourist by anyone who notices? If the passport is accepted 100% of the time, why risk the faff about if the DL is declined?

Your all completely way off the mark, but thanks for the advice. Where my passport is or isn't is irrelevant, please stop getting it wrong.
