A foreign man was captured on CCTV stealing a liquor bottle from a restaurant in Patong, Phuket, on Sunday, October 19. The footage, shared by the Phuket Times on October 21, shows the suspect in black shorts and a red shirt with a black jacket, taking the bottle and hiding it inside his jacket before leaving. The theft occurred without any staff or customers present, and the value of the liquor was not disclosed.

The incident has reignited criticism of Thailand's visa-free entry policy, which some believe attracts undesirable tourists, leading to increased criminal activity by foreigners. Online reactions have been strongly negative, with netizens blaming the visa-free scheme for a surge in crimes. Comments on social media expressed concerns over the negative impact on tourism quality and the potential for escalating issues.

While the online community voiced their opinions, there has been no confirmation from the restaurant regarding filing a police complaint, nor has there been any official comment from local authorities. This theft is part of a series of recent incidents involving foreign nationals. Previously, on October 1, another foreign suspect was caught on CCTV stealing laptops and a wallet in Bang Tao, although there's been no update on his arrest.

In other cases, restaurants in Phuket have reported theft by foreigners, with instances like the August theft of a Vivienne Westwood watch and an attempted car theft in April, highlighting ongoing security concerns. These recurring incidents have sparked debates on the effectiveness of current tourist entry policies.

Looking ahead, authorities may face pressure to reassess visa regulations or enhance security measures to prevent further incidents. The need for effective law enforcement and clearer responses to such crimes remains crucial in addressing public concerns and maintaining Phuket's reputation as a safe tourist destination.

Key Takeaways

  • A foreign man stole liquor from a Patong restaurant, sparking criticism of tourist policies.
  • The incident adds to ongoing concerns about crimes by foreigners in Phuket.
  • Authorities might need to reconsider visa policies and enhance security.

Let's get back to the time when there was nothing but cash payment for airline tickets and traveler's checks and cash was the method of payment for goods and services and credit cards were unheard of.  😉

No it wont. Some posters might talk about it as they do with foreigners from other countries almost daily.

But thats about it. The story itself will be forgotten just like the others are.

So a few people out of 10s of millions in Thailand. They also still have a few stragglers in the KKK In USA.  But the overwhelming vast majority of people dont give it a second thought.

Did you ever consider that those on AN who talk about it are purposely trolling you.

How many members are on AN compared to the few who might be talking like you say. It barely registers.

I see some threads on here with members who never ever post in politics yet they are very active in many other threads. Loads of members actually.

You will get an entire jew hate topic.

Its probably ok, if the jew haters are venting here, its because they are to chickensh*t to do anything in person to women and children. Its almost like studies showing loads of porn can affect the number of sex crimes.

So your people are perpetrating a live-streamed genocide in Gaza for the whole world to see, a genocide that you fully support, and somehow Israelis are the victims - of something that hasn't even happened - except inside of your paranoid mind? And you wonder why your people are so loathed? Get a grip on yourself.

Just asking what nationality the guy in this story is .

A foreigner in Phuket , Thailand .

Some  people focused on Israelis long before the current war started .

The genuine point is that this story would have got more attention if the perpetrator  was Israeli

I can't imagine that visa free entry has much effect on bad guys entering the country. Professional thieves can afford to pay for visas, knowing they can make the money back here.

The best method would be not to allow people with criminal records into Thailand. That implies every country sharing information that many consider private, so I don't see it happening soon.

Perhaps tougher laws including time in a local prison (sharing a bucket with 25 others) then expelling them would work.
