  • To the title ... ... ACA - ObamaCare 🤬

  • The ACA had really taken it’s toll, but as far as I’m concerned, healthcare in the US is the best in the world.

  • It’s only considered a mess because the left needs it to be a mess.

How would that reign in "Big Pharma"?

Countries that have healthcare are more socialist and people pay much higher taxes.

UK tax 19-25%, including healthcare, education, State Pension, and a load of other benefits

Norway tax 24%, including healthcare, education and other benefits

USA tax 21% ++ healthcare, education. If you include the cost of healthcare and education on your income, you would be paying around 27–30% in tax.

Yes, you can keep your Blue Cross/Shield private healthcare, whatever

You get the same health care as a CEO

The gov has nothing to do with deciding who gets health care. Everyone who needs surgery gets it for free.

Why do you think you should be bankrupted to get healthcare?

So, they'll have separate hospitals for those with health insurance and the rest will go to a government type free hospital? I'm confused, how does that work?

In Calif the county hospitals are already free. Will each state have their own rules?

To a person who's grown up in a country where that was never, ever an issue this is mind-blowing.

Go back to Uganda then.

Sad that people refuse universal healthcare because it is "socialist" without realizing that by that measure, so is the military, the police, roads, fire service and so on. Premiums paid to health insurance are pooled anyway to pay some people for expensive treatment, e.g. heart transplants. That pretty much is what EU members do, pay premiums via tax and pool the money to pay for some very expensive procedures.

Are you saying that even poor Uganda has a better healthcare system than the US?? Well, I must admit that piece of information took me by surprise.

But thanks for that, buddy. I appreciate your honesty!

The US is the only developed nation in the world that doesn’t give all of its citizens access to basic, affordable healthcare services.

Every person in the United States has access to basic healthcare, it’ just isn’t affordable for everyone. Most of the “high cost” is just typical price gouging that has run rampant throughout all sectors of business of which insurance, medical and attorney services is out of reach for many.

Fixed it for you.     :sorry:

No, for everyone. I never had insurance until I was forty

Well, my mother had Blue Cross. When she got cancer, Blue Cross refused to pay for treatment. What Americans call death panels are insurance companies making a decision whether to treat or not. Government hospitals cannot choose to let a patient die.

I think you have misunderstood if you think there is "free" healthcare. It is paid for through tax, so it is free at the point of use only. You have already paid. There are about 930 NHS (public/government) hospitals and 218 private hospitals in the UK. Things not "free" in government hospitals would include beauty treatments, like facelifts.

I once had a discussion with an American economist who said that American treatment is superior and gave the example of a patient in Norway who was flown to the USA where special treatment was available. My answer was the fact the flight and treatment were provided free to the Norwegian patient indicated that Norwegian healthcare was far superior.

This is the American view of socialism, not the real meaning.

Really? I asked grok (AI) for the average personal tax rate of Western nations and it came up with this list:

Country
Avg. Personal Tax Rate (%)
Australia
23.3
Austria
30.6
Belgium
40.3
Canada
21.5
Denmark
35.7
Finland
31.2
France
29.8
Germany
31.1
Greece
22.4
Iceland
28.5
Ireland
24.7
Italy
29.4
Liechtenstein
~18.0
Luxembourg
32.1
Malta
25.6
Netherlands
31.8
New Zealand
18.4
Norway
27.9
Portugal
20.1
Spain
24.2
Sweden
30.5
Switzerland
15.7
United Kingdom
24.9
United States
24.8

Every single country has universal healthcare except the US.

Socialism is where the people own the means of production.

Getting it back to where it was before the ACA woukd be a great start.

Right, back when:

  • 45–50 million Americans had no insurance at all
  • Pre-existing conditions meant automatic denial or sky-high premiums
  • Lifetime caps let insurers drop you once treatment got expensive
  • Young adults were kicked off parents’ plans at 18 or 21
  • Medical bankruptcies made up over 60% of all personal bankruptcies

Yeah, great plan — let’s make healthcare unaffordable again.

Uh.....yes........exactly.

Look back through this topic and you will find many Americans here think it means if they have to pay to support a group, that is socialism. "Hey, my health insurance doesn't pay for that guy, that's socialism." Actually, all health insurance is pooled and used for everyone.

Half the people in the US pay no federal income tax, so the average rate is a bit skewed.

A poo is not socialism.   Anyway Socialism sucks.

That's because you don't understand. The American definition of socialism is paying money to help others. In a way, your tax pays for the military, which is posted globally and is paying money to foreigners on a daily basis and all that came from your tax.

None of this is socialism.   We all know Socialism sucks.

A 5% net increase on income tax for the richest 20% would pay for free health care for every single citizen.

But what do the richest care about the poorest? This is America.

That is more or less correct, although a bit narrow in it's definition. So I asked an AI (Grok) the following question:

"As per the definition that socialism is an economic and political system where the community or state owns and controls the means of production, rather than private individuals, are there any countries on the planet that can be considered socialist?"

Part of reply, as per forum rules:

"By the strict definition of socialism—where the state or community owns and controls the means of production—few, if any, countries fully qualify today.

Countries Often Associated with Socialism

Cuba

North Korea
Venezuela

Vietnam

Laos

China

So when the usual suspects sprout their drivel about "socialist" Western Europe, Canada or Anzac one can just gently bur repeatedly pat them on their ignorant little heads and kick their ample butts, Benny Hill style.😆

By being healthy  there is far less need for "big pharma'' in the first place.

Spending less on war can help Make America Healthy Again   by subsidising farmers  producing healthy natural food at an affordable cost ,providing low cost loans (or free)   housing, education, healthcare and business startups.

Stop spending on war and destruction and start investing in your own

people/country..
