I had enough, I asked this crazy woman to calm down, I got a little angry, saying it's Thailand, we do things differently here and if you don't like it you can go back home or shop at the supermarket up the road

Poor Pattaya, so many nasty, disrespectful foreigners arriving.

A few months back, me and the miss's were in wine connection, some Russian kicking off because his pizza was taking to long, he blew a fuse, even other Russian were looking at him,

  • It sounds like you have a lot of complaints about lots of places. But I'm sure it's never you!

  • Sounds like the common denominator is you.

  • Reading your OP, it sounds like the issue lies more in how things were handled than in the staff themselves. Three similar incidents point to a pattern, something in tone or approach is setting people

I have to admit I stay in my cocoon a bit. I'm home most of the time.

But the last two days I've had horrible experiences at two Thai government agencies.

At the first one I was yelled at for asking a question and treated rudely by numerous Thai people. I even went into the manager's office and spoke to management about one particular person's actions. The managers were very receptive and they planned to talk to the person involved. They even asked if I wanted her to come in and apologize to me. I said that wouldn't be necessary.

Today I was at another government agency today. Same level of rudeness and dismissiveness. But when I complained the manager was worse than the employees. He waved his arm like "get out".

I don't believe I was out of line at all in either situation. The first time I got yelled at for asking a question and then I told her not to yell at me, which made her madder. The second time, again, tried to clarify something.

I refuse to be disrespected by anyone, especially these Thai paper pushers.

So I believe that there is a definite anti-foreigner sentiment among Thais. These two experiences (3 actually, since I went to the same facility 2 days in a row) have sealed that idea in my mind.

What do you think? Do you find Thais, especially government workers, treating you badly, talking down to you, yelling at you and dismissing you like you don't matter?

I've lived here about 25 years and I've never felt this way before. I've had rude government people before, but not to this extent.

I'm wondering what your experience has been.

Well try your same attitude or behavior in UK or USA, and see how that goes 😉 You might getaway with it in Scandinavia, but France? UK, Australia, USA? Good luck

Thailand is the only country where you go go everywhere, and I mean everywhere without fearing for you limbs and life 24/7. I haven been to one place where I have felt threatened for one sec, cant say the same about most other countries I have been, not even Norway after dark some few places as an civilian. I did work the dark side of Oslo as a security, but that’s different, and not even comparable to other countries dark places in the night.

You might take a look at yourself

No No...what you do is immediately agree with the farang girl tell her she's right ..and then as they open the check out ...you turn to the staff and start telling them the obnoxious behaviour of these farangs and you look at her and shake your head !

Why you will always be the obnoxious unknowing foreign tourist no matter how many times you return, which seems to be no more... 🤣

Actually I have found the opposite, they are generally nice if you are nice to them, smile a lot and be respectful. Last week I had to spend a night in the hospital and the doctors & staff were great, I thanked them for helping me and they all smiled back at me and were very helpful, same in immigration, I smile and thank them and they treat me very well. What I do see is the ones that are loud and act like they are better get treated like they deserve, have never been treated badly for asking a question probably due to the way I ask, smiling and soft spoken then thanking for their help. Treating other the way you want to be treated makes a lot of difference, admittedly you do come across a few that are just full of themselves but the greater majorty treat you the way you treat them

Must be just where you live, my local Makro, all the staff cars are right over the other side, the nearest parking spots are the disabled spots which are chained up, you need to ask the security unlock if you need, We also go to the main one on a Sunday never a problem,

Same for us, and usually I park in one of the first 2 ro 3 spots in any of the rows close to the entrance.

And Bangkok Pattaya Hospital tends to have very polite people. But I wish a few more of them spoke English. It's like 80% of their customers.

Wait, you've been here 25 years and you don't speak Thai?!

That's on you, my friend.

Thais are human beings with issues, like the majority of humans on Earth. Are Thais better or worse than other humans? No way! I've had excellent experiences with Thai immigration and practically all government agencies. However, I am aware that there are rude operators everywhere.

I've recently experienced a rash of what I consider to be terrible service from employees at the amphoe office, the post office, my bank, a 'drilling for dollars' dentist, and a courier who jacked me around about when a package would be delivered. These unpleasant experiences were largely offset by very positive interactions with another post office, my vet, gas station attendants, and convenience store counter clerks, etc.  I, too, have been wondering whether this perceived mistreatment can be attributed to anti-foreigner sentiment, but it is also possible that after feeling mistreated the first time, I developed a chip-on-my-shoulder attitude which bled into subsequent interactions. In other words, I may have become more prone to voice irritation after the first incident. The jury's still out, but I have to say in general that I echo the sentiment that I too have picked up a low-grade resentment towards foreigners from time to time and I think it might have to do with trade tensions and economic weakness that tariffs have done to the Thai economy. Sentiment towards foreigners does seem to fluctuate from time to time, and in the past I've observed negative sentiment does seem to correlate with weak economic conditions.

I expect no other treatment than how I treat others, your positive experience's echo’s this…….I like to give the benefit of the doubt, but also have a bunch of places I won’’t ever visit again. As for Immigration- I only go to report residence, anything, anything else at I/O I use a agent, as they know their way around the offices, and keeps me out of the limelight, worth every penny. peace

Not really, I am just having a 👍👍👍 kind a day……...I haven’t used the ‘thumbs down’ emoji because I don’t have a clue what it is supposed to be used for, and I suspect those 'serial thumbs down' folks don’t either. Peace

The thumbs down emoji is used when someone has been upset in a completely different thread and the user carries over resentment into a new thread and stalks the recipient because they now dislike them !!! 🤡 (or thats what some people seem to think, anyway).....

Had same issues as the Op states at the Driving Licence office near Cha Am, at some of the banks in Bluport and Market Village in Hua Hin. They were rude, not helpful and gave a horrific image of Thailand. For No valid reason and Yes, I did all the bowing, the Waïs, properly dressed etc....one just has to face it. They just like us here for our money. Accept it, and all will go fine.

Just to give one example.

Every year I have to send the "are you still alive document" to my pension fund.

I go to my local orbotor, and the document get completed and signed by the mayor right away.

This year there is a new mayor.

Staff at the info desk has changed, and refuse to speak English. Previous staff wasn't perfect in English, but they tried or they would get someone who spoke English.

Current staff just pretend to be deaf and dumb.

At the end got someone who wanted to speak, and answer was, we don't provide this service

I don't think a mayor or equivalent status is necessary for a "proof of life" document. These papers are probably given to the lowest ranking staff available who in my opinion aren't equipped to follow up on exactly who signed it as long as 'someone" did.

Oh there's no need for that ...please !.
