My new baked beans procedure

Featured Replies

Problem with opening a large can of beans is you are under pressure to finish in a few days, that alone puts me off, so now i open, use a portion then put the remainder in 2 to 3 Tupperware containers and freeze, which can be defrosted at my leisure no pressure.

Any other great ideas?

  • I put a bit of cling film/shrink wrap  over the can top and keep it in the fridge for quite a while..eventually the mould grows at which point I throw the lot out freezing sounds like a good

  • How do you make 1 kg of beans out of 700 gram of ingredients?   Anyway , 2 cans of Ayam beans is 118 baht, 850gram net, of which 480 gram is beans, and no hassle.

Deepseek suggested freezing, where they last many months, fridge only lasts a few days so forced to eat or bin

Yes, you can do the same with almost any food, from cans, self-cooked curry or spaghetti, or pizza, or pad kapow, or bread, anything!,etc etc.

Does freezing them not reduce quality, make 'em mushy or whatever?

How long do they hold?

I checked with Deepseek who was enthusiastic about freezing, I've defrosted twice and they taste the same, better in fact because I'm eating when i want rather than just to finish. Should be fine for months

How the heck can 2 people bother to give you thumbs down for that post.....if they don't like your idea they should make a post.

You often mention Deepseek and I regret to admit that I hadn't heard of it....................is it a good source of enquiry?

(off topic but curious).

Do you then cook them from frozen or take them out of the freezer the day before?

Personally I stopped eating that kind of tinned food as a young teenager. I only ate it because I was still learning to cook and it was cheap. It was regarded as food for pensioners and by the looks of it, still is.

I thought that I was doing okay buying a beef curry in a tin.  Moved on a bit since then. Though to be fair, nothing wrong with egg and chips with baked beans. Don't eat it myself, but nothing against it.

They are negative stalkers, sadly you get them here. Deepseek is great, AI,  download the app and ask any question about anything, you'll get much better answers than on here, try it

Baked beans are very healthy. It's an easy breakfast on toast. I defrost 5 mins in microwave then high power 1 minute

I'd like the system to go back so we can see who leaves reactions, in particular who the negative losers are

Indeed. I've said many times if they got rid of the anonomyzer the thumbs down trolling would virtually be non-existent.

The beans are dried, when you rehydrate them the weight increases.

Larger tins are standard in Thailand, have you been to Thailand?

Have you ever been to Thailand, as they have tins half the size as well in every supermarket, but of course they may cost 2% more by weight.

Yes I also drain off the sauce, as there is too much sugar in it.

I also by the red kidney beans in brine from Mica, at 49 baht a tin, as they are easier to drain and add your preferred sauce

At least now you understand how dried beans get heavier 555

A million housewives every day pick up a tin of beans and say....beans means Heinz

HP Baked beans they`re the beans for me....HP Baked beans I,ll have them for my tea

Millions of 'home cooks' just get the dried bean, and start from scratch, or, get the cooked beans, doctor them to taste, or, simply rinse off all the crap sauce (as I used to), and start from scratch.   People simply don't have time, though if planned, really isn't that time consuming.

Meal prepping larger batches & freezing makes quick meals once stocked up with the basics in the freezer.  So much healthier, and a lot cheaper.   Fills in those boring days, whether it's beans, bread, pickles, sauerkraut, and many other items, that are so silly  priced.    You can save enough money to buy a whole slab of Archa beer.

Obviously doesn't work for retirees without a full kitchen or larger fridge / freezer space.  Some can barely hold left over pizza and a few Archa beers.

I like adding cheese to the sauce.

Ayam baked beans; did you know they have several varieties, include pizza baked beans, curry flavour and cheesy baked beans?

Mainly sold in China, but you can buy them on Lazada if you search carefully.
