  • That is where you already made your first mistake, joining a Pattaya gym filled with big Russians and expecting it to be a civil experience. It is a bit like the mistake you made before when you compl

  • It's weird moving the bike, that's probably what he said in Russian, it's in a position set by staff, leave it there, maybe ask staff if it can be moved

  • Because they are weak men. Real tough guys don't get angry. The toughest guy in the room is the quiet one.

Fair enough if he was the owner or staff, otherwise should mind his business. Hope you told the belligerent lump to go and do one in Thai…

I agree. He could have been bitching about something that I was actually allowed to do or the gym had no interest in enforcing. It could be a no-no in his country, but not here.

He broke protocol by addressing me directly. If he felt there was a violation he needed to report that to staff and let them handle it.

Ask him why he is a puss and not fighting for his country.

Try asking the staff permission first.  It's not your gym.

I think your post is the correct way to handle the matter.

Yes, if you remember, the op had a similar problem at his hotel when he starting taking chairs from outside, swapping them, strange behaviour, definitely a bit odd

I had a gym rat, some big russian guy, get irritated when I moved a stationary bike in the gym.

I dismounted after completing the ride and he bitched a little immediately about me moving it before I had a chance to put it back into it's original position.

Is it bad gym etiquette to move the bike while I'm using it if it's only a minor re-position and not in anyone's way, or are gym rules to not move any equipment from it's original position?

They have the bikes facing the wall and I moved it in front of the window.

Not your gym, so leave the stuff alone.

The Russian guy is right, you are wrong, so who is the rat.

You're putting your own crap on it. There was no posted rule about moving the bike and I thought the move was Ok. It's up to the staff to say something or post not to in the rules.

How would you feel if I questioned every little thing you do in the gym? I can think of hundreds of little things to bitch about.

It seems like a Pattaya thing. Something weird with the guys here. Could be testosterone, etc.

Today etiquette is a rare commodity, whether in the Gym or anywhere else. This is mainly felt when another person does something wrong to oneself. If not, most times we tend to think what we do is right all the time - a kind of I am entitled to do anything feeling...

Common sense should have told you that you don't start moving equipment around.

You should have asked the staff if it was OK, to rearrange the gym because you didn't like it as it was.

Correct answer....:clap2:

Would they actually have the TV on a channel you could understand, or would you like to choose your own.

Some places, but anything to just look at is better than stirring in to the wall in front of you. Most places they do have some kind of view or some screens. Even individual screens I have experienced at A1 hotel in Bangkok with headphones. Would had been perfect if the remote worked 😉

Ok. 🫡 I think you are technically correct. It's too weird for me to ask each time because it feels petty to me. I'll consider getting my own bike and leaving the gym equipment alone or looking at another gym that has better views.

Tell me more about this ' protocol '.

He can't decide on his own what other people can or can't do in the gym. Protocol is to ask the owner or staff to interpret and enforce the rules.

I don't think you need to ask each time, once would be enough. If you were a temporary guest at someone's house, would you move the kitchen table into the living room so you could eat and watch TV? Maybe slide the sofa out onto the balcony to drink beer and watch the sunset? I would be indignant if someone came into my place and started moving things around.

Depends on if I was paying to stay there or not. If paying, yes, as long as I put it back afterwards. If someone else in the house objected, technically I would need to ask the owner. Same as what happened in the gym which I am paying to use. If I was there as simply a non paying guest I would not move anything.

I do it now at Airbb's. Move furniture around, but it looks the same as when I arrived when I leave. If they want it unmoved they need to state that in the listing.

Sometimes you come across the rare 'entitled ' guy/gal in gyms who wants to personalise the place. I wish they stick to their home gyms, so everyone's happy.

What a drama queen !

just turn a bike for a bit better view out the window, and then turn it back, nobody is hurt or offended 😄

People are people, get over it, it is not a problem. Just like bringing the bench to a better spot for mirror, reach the heavy hantles, or away from someone who doing what they doing on the floor, and they are not using it.

Your English sucks. It's personalize and stuck to.

Be careful around these big gym rates. Most are on roids, and can be very hormonal - which can lead to violence for the littlest of reasons.

Utter rats they are.

Thanks. I will try to find an English tutor. I guess you are not up to the mark, for sure. The Russian Gym Rat is far superior to your ways of doing things.
