Factory suspension tuning shop Hua Hin or Bangkok

Featured Replies

Has anyone tuned and improved the factory installed suspension for their car?

This company in Lampang has a secret I don't know.

However I am not willing to go so far to Lampang.

Here are some testimonies:

As far as I know factory McPherson struts are not tunable.

In general you will buy after market coil overs.

So I asked perplexity how do they do it. I can't judge if perplexity is just hallucinating here:

"The secret to tuning factory-installed McPherson strut suspension for better high-speed stability, despite these struts typically being non-tunable, lies in subtle geometry and hardware modifications that can adjust camber and damping characteristics.

Key methods include:

  • Adjusting camber by modifying the lower control arms length or angles, if adjustable, to achieve better tire contact and reduce understeer.
  • "Kicking" or tilting the strut relative to the spindle by using aftermarket or modified mounting bolts and brackets to increase negative camber; some systems allow replacing bolts with slotted or eccentric ones for fine tuning.
  • Using specialized camber plates or adjustable top mounts that allow changes in static camber and caster angles, which improve tire grip at high speeds during cornering.
  • Upgrading to tuned springs and shock absorbers with tailored damping rates that enhance stability and control for the specific vehicle and driving conditions.
  • Ensuring that these adjustments maintain correct wheel alignment geometry and manage wheel clearance, especially when wider tires or altered offsets are involved.

While McPherson struts don't inherently have tunable damper or camber settings, these mechanical tweaks and aftermarket components enable tuning for improved handling and stability at high speed. The company you referenced likely uses such techniques and hardware modifications to achieve better dynamic control on the EVs they service.

This approach balances enhanced performance with the limitations of standard McPherson strut design, focusing heavily on camber management and damping adjustments through carefully selected parts and alignment settings."

So I'm looking for a shop that can do those tricks of Lampang, but closer to Hua Hin or Bangkok.

Thai Inter in Chiang Rai replaced the suspension setup on my friends BYD Seal Performance.

He regretted it, it made the ride quite unpleasant, I tried it too and wasn’t impressed.  I’m not sure what it does to the warranty.

suspension setup can go terribly worse if the user dont know how it works and which part of the suspension to replace.

what probably can happen is that the shock and the spring rates dont match, and he changed the wrong one.

an example: I see on the internet something nobody should do ever. YSS promotes the sport and comfort springs for the BYD atto 3. if you do that the car will be much, much worse. It will be even dangerous.

here, the shocks are the problem, hardly it's the springs in most cars. So, you keep the stock springs and only change the Shock absorber. 99% of the time, this is the best setup.

Most cars springs are on the right rate, the problem is in the shock absorbers that are cheap OEM, made to last, but they work very slow, lack in technology, cant rebound fast enough,  performs just only good for low speed test drives.

I have changed Atto3 with a TEIN Endura pro, while keeping stock springs, the cars handles amazing sharp and very sporty. I can now go into corners at high speed and at the apex rocket it out very stable and planted on the road. before with original shocks, very scary to do that.

I would only go that route if there are no options for a shock upgrade from TEIN or YSS. Normally I dont believe those magic work reviews...

you can get either YSS or TEIN between 12,000-24,000 baht. which doesn't require any modifications to the strut assembly and linked arm, and is only 0.1% of the car cost, providing a 90% ride improvements over stock

12-24K Baht on a suspension i think is the second best upgrade, after tires upgrade to ultra premium models. I have the Tein Endura Pro on the Atto3 and it's transformed the car into a very capable sport car.

ditch the Mcpherson and fit coilovers

not sure what you mean there... isn't coil over is a part of the macpherson design.

or perhaps you mean you hate the McPherson design (limited camber gain during cornering) and want to convert the car to a Double Wishbone or Multi-link setup? I think that is not easy 😄, but I understand why you want that.

The BYD Sealion 7 has a multi-link rear suspension and double-wishbone front suspension.

The car handle so good, it's impressive, I test drove so many cars, the SL7 handles the best for anything under 1.5M baht.

They even added a Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) shock absorbers as icing in the cake!

At once you change something by a third party, your warranty is invalid.

There is som many local suspension shops with copy brands, so you need to go to someone who have good reputation and also do not use counterfeit products.

I made my car higher and also more suitable for carrying two motorbikes long distance, and I had to redo it because of them using old and mixed grades and metals (alloys?) bolts and nuts. They are F imbeciles when it comes to doing proper work, and always take short cuts if you do not sit on top of them and watch them doing the work. Same with service on my motorbikes many places around, especially Kawasaki big bike chain

I would go on fb to specific car tuning pages, and maybe for your car only, and ask. Usually quite helpful on those pages. Even better if you know the specific suspension you want, and search for the headoffice in Thailand and ask them.

As I said in my post office, you shouldn’t take for granted they do their job properly at any random garage or even give you what you want or real and not counterfeit. Suspension marked in Thailand is huge, so be careful
