The A380 is incomparable ... tops 'em all. Sadly, ain't many around now apart from the Gulf carriers.

Luftwaffe still flies them to/from Bangkok but you've just missed Oktoberfest.

Even as an American I avoid flying on any American airline, if I can help it. It's inferior service, the cabins aren't usually quite as nice, and there's really no reason to do it unless you have to,

  • Why can't people understand the fact that "direct flights" and non-stop flights are not the same and stop using the terms interchangeably?

  • Although I have flown non-stop to BKK with Air Canada from my local airport (YVR), I prefer on the whole to take a break in TPE with Eva Air.  Eva Air is one of the few airlines (that I know) who

Your lucky you are not flying from Australia to the UK then

I have a brother in the UK and a Sister in Perth, we meet up in Bali...I think I got the best deal...

Brother does do non-stop LHR-BKK, stays a couple of days where we meet-up,  then we both hop south

BKK to Bali is a breeze

Not a lot of choices mid-Pacific. Are you a good swimmer?

No real desire to head far over the pond... I like it this side

Like so many things American, it's just simply inferior.

Unless you are a retired employee of an American Carrier and fly for practically free (non-rev) like me!

I fly business class these days. I like non stop.  I make sure I’m tired. And then not a problem where I fly to

Everyday Cathay flies from Boston, New York , Chicago, Dallas , San Francisco and Los Angeles via Hong Kong to Bangkok. Nicer service , planes and staff than United. Who cares if you have to take your carry on bag and change planes in Hong Kong. You are going to get off the United flight for a couple hours as well. I don't see this as some breaking big travel news for Thailand. EVA , JAL, Korean and others do the same everyday as well.

Because the announcement of a direct flight is so incredibly inconsequential, trivial in comparison to a direct flight as formerly was offered by Thai Airways from BKK to LAX.

There's nothing "new" about this really, so you get to sit on the same plane as it sits on the tarmac to refuel - big deal,on the airline with among the lowest quality in-flight experience in the world, yeah let's have a party.

Already, and still, as others have pointed out one could fly Cathay Pacific to HK in far better comfort.

Or go via Singapore, via Singapore Airways.

Again, to your point, people confuse Direct and non-stop because this announcement is such a non-event as to be altogether forgettable.

Spot on, Mike.

I, too, will pass on any American airline....they suck in all aspects.

I'll stay with the Asian carriers for any passages that I require.

United Airlines is a horrible airline and rated one of the worst in the world.

Agreed. I flew San Francisco to Tokyo on United in “premium economy,” and the service was shocking. They wouldn’t even loan me a pen to fill out the arrival card. They just curtly said “no.”

No. No I don't.

That's Air Cloggie.

Has anybody used BKK to Tokyo with JAL?

My friend did as part of a United's reward travel claim r/t to Phoenix AZ with his wife. He said it was the best sector and service of the whole trip. They flew Business.

It was a joke. BA flies Lancasters to Dresden.

I don't see the United flight having much success. LAX is an expensive gateway for alot of US passengers. The Canadians are going to stay with Air Canada and the price sensitive US passengers will pick the lower cost Asian alternatives. United's soft product is low end. All of the US carriers except for Delta, are pretty much poor quality. The route will need to have more than the handful of renthusiasts from Asean Now to be viable.

It's not necessarily the same plane and depending on the local airport rules you have to get off and get xray screened again.

These cabins are trashed after a 12 plus hour flight and need to be cleaned by the aircraft cleaners

So what is so great about a "direct flight" in any way better than any other connecting flight with differnt flight numbers?

I will try and fly United from MCO (Orlando) to BKK (Bangkok) next month, just trying to decide which gateway to use either SFO or LAX. SFO looks the best since LAX seems to have pretty full PAX aircraft. Glad to see them flying to BKK again. Go for the Polaris is the Best. Happy Travels.

yeah.  My buddy did the Thai airways non stop from LAX back when it still was available.  Not me.  I prefer the stop in TPE and about a 2 to 3 hour layover.  12 hours on a plane across the pacific is long enough for me, even with a premium economy decent seat.  I remember my first two trips from the USA on China airlines and then EVA airlines flying coach.  Not flying coach now at my age

I flew coach for many years simply because that's what my Company gave me. It wasn't till recently I started with premium economy, and now when I look aft through the draw curtain into economy I wonder how I survived.

Still can't pull the trigger on business class ticket though.

Flying may be tedious but it certainly isn't a life changer to fly upper cattle class.

I will still wave when you look through the curtain.🙃🙃

Now I fly everywhere with my teen age daughter and premium economy allows us to sit together alone. The seats are bigger, more leg room, a bit better service than economy. When the seat in front reclines it's not in your lap. Makes that Taipei to SFO a bit easier.

Treat yourself, don't cheat yourself.

Noticing that they're all Western airlines.

Telling tale.

Western airlines have to comply with laws against discriminating based on age and other immutable characteristics.  They're not allowed to fire people based on crabby work habits, lest they be sued for discrimination.

Fair call. I treat myself when I arrive at my destination. 45 year old backpacking ways are still in my blood and provide me with an extra 2 weeks holiday on fares saved.🙃🙃

Agree.

Even just Economy Vs Economy,  experience on the A380 jet is better than all other model.
