A young man in Pattaya was deceived and relieved of his motorcycle and mobile phone after stopping to help a man who feigned needing assistance. Anucha, 20, contacted officers from Mueang Pattaya Police Station at approximately 3 AM on October 26, after falling victim to the theft.

Earlier that morning, Anucha was heading home on his motorcycle after registering for the government’s Half-Half Plus scheme at an ATM on Thepprasit Road. When he encountered a man near Soi Thepprasit 7 pushing a motorcycle, the man solicited help, claiming his vehicle had run out of fuel. Anucha agreed to assist by pushing the man’s motorcycle with his own bike towards a nearby petrol station.

During their journey, the suspect proposed swapping bikes for convenience, which Anucha accepted. Upon reaching the station, the suspect borrowed Anucha’s iPhone 16 Pro Max under the pretense of calling his brother for money, then fled with both the bike and phone.

Police quickly responded by deploying patrol units to block potential escape routes and utilized GPS to trace the stolen phone. The signal led them to an abandoned house on Soi Thepprasit 5, where the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Phongpisut, was apprehended. The stolen items were retrieved, and Phongpisut was taken into custody.

Phongpisut confessed to the crime, acknowledging he was under the influence of crystal meth at the time. He conceded to intending to sell the iPhone for cash but was apprehended before realizing his plan. The legal consequences facing Phongpisut could include up to five years in prison and a fine as high as 100,000 baht.

Key Takeaways

  • A good samaritan was tricked and robbed of his motorcycle and phone in Pattaya.
  • The police rapidly responded, using GPS to arrest the thief, Phongpisut.
  • Phongpisut faces severe penalties for theft under the influence.

Pattaya................................ everything seems to happen at 3am.

The old adage, 'No good turn goes unpunished' seems to fit too  well! What a scumbag, decent guy getting robbed!

And he probably nicked the bike he was pushing. Not out of gas, no key!

The "tell" was in asking for the kid's phone to call the brother - NOBODY knows anybody's phone number in the day of speed dial.:coffee1:

Self-defeating.  How would such a loser ever get this sort of money together except by criminal means?

I live in a high floor condo in the middle in the ''good part of Pattaya'' and sometimes at 3-4 am some Nutter

raving their high-powered bikes so hard it sounds as if the engine is going to blow up and waking up

the whole neighborhood. This is Pattaya.

I agree with you.  I am 68 and grew up knowing and remembering dozens of phone numbers, neighbors, friends etc.  heck, back in the day it took a whole minute to dial a number on the rotary dial phones we had.  One of my friends phone number had a 0s two 8 and a 9 in it.  438 0839 . My finger hurt after dialing because the spring loaded dial was pretty firm and you had to stick your finger in the rotary dial holes, and drag/rotate the dial

I literally could not list one number now, even the numbers I frequently call.  I might get the area code right but that's about it

Would anyone with any sense hand that guy an iPhone 16 pro?  It's worth more money than he sees in a year.  Maybe an Arab butcher would take his right hand off instead of having to lock the meth head in a cage.
