The fear of death is the most unjustified of all fears. Correct?

Featured Replies

Dear Folks,

The full quote is....

“The fear of death is the most unjustified of all fears, for there’s no risk of accident for someone who’s dead.”

image.png.f3b8fc78077ea1deff879a2a5c6f1c1d.png

Is this true?

Do you think this quote is valid?

What about dentistry, for example?

Or, what about the NEW Thinking concerning what some pundits of AI think might be worse than death?

There is always that, mind you.

These fears include....X-risks.

Do you know about these X-RISKS, worse than death?

Or, modern-day dentistry bad enough for you?

What about these S-RISKS?

image.png.3a11e225388c6c29e1a2c9bef4662020.png

As we know, it is completely possible to have a god-like intelligence with a goal that is completely insane, and...MONSTROUS...

Think of the life of lab rats in any university laboratory, for example.

Imagine a REAL Hell, created by some perverse AI, which keeps humans alive, just for the pleasure of torturing them.

There is no hell in the Christian sense.  However, AI is fully capable of creating a hell, in due time.

This would definitely be far worse than a billion visits to the worst dentist imaginable.

I love dentists, but I also hate them.

And so it may be for our relationships with AI, in the very near future.

IDK.

Regards,

Note:  THIS S-RISK keeps me up nights.

Note2:  This potential for S-RISK is not some new concept. In fact, there have been quite a few guys talking about this, in recent years, and even before.  Google it, if you have never heard of it, why don't you....

Death is the climax of life, nothing to fear, it’s the day we’re all waiting for.

I fear the process death entails.  I worry that next decade is going to be a struggle and my quality of life diminished.  I'll be in my sixth decade in a couple years and so far every decade has been great.  Maybe we just adapt to changes and I should drop the slight anxiety.

Have you considered getting some help?

The purpose of Life is the maximisation of suffering. Life is permeated by badness.

Life is bad, but death is bad too. Death is not a remedy for Life. Death does not save us from the badness of life. In fact, it contributes to the badness and to the meaninglessness of Life. We are forced to live within the anxious terror of our mortality. Death is bad in its own right.

The best way to prevent the sufferings of life and the pain of death is to stop bringing new people into existence.

I LOVE China.....

So beautiful and wonderful.......

Mao destroyed China.

Thank you, Mr. Mao....

China, has never recovered.

HK remained some sort of bastion of Chinese culture, during the Cultural Revolution.

And now.....

Xi wants to stamp out what was originally preserved.

What a dastardly dude is XI......

I do recall, one time many years ago, when I was too late to buy a ticket to hear a special piece of music at this hall:

image.png.ac3f6c812ffe361a05381cfbed0913b2.png

For some strange reason:

Someone threw down a ticket to me from a balcony.

I entered, and found true beauty.

I have not forgotten this kindness, even today.

The performance happened to have been one of the greatest Chinese composers.

The performance was truly amazing.

Such kindness, one NEVER forgets.

Under this dastardly rule of Xi, never before have so many Chinese been elevated to the "middle class". It must have escaped you.

Just to flesh this out a bit:

I had dearly wished to see a performance of the Chinese Orchestra in Hong Kong, one which had been widely publicized.

The seats were sold out, completely.

Yet, I still walked down the hill to try to buy a ticket.

And, as expected, the seats were completely sold out.

Yet, when I entered, from up above, there were a few Chinese couples waiting before the performance.

They looked down at me, a very poor Farang....

And then they tossed down a ticket to me.

I really cannot tell you just how much this kind gesture meant to me, at the time....

And, it must have meant more than I knew, even at the time, because.....

Here I am, more than 35 years later, just telling you about it.

Why would these Chinese couples toss a ticket to me, for free???

Just that one kindness has remained with me for many years.

The performance was truly amazing, and unforgettable.

"Death" sucks. But only for those creatures that once lived. Always good to remember that before we were born we were simply "not existent". After death we return into "non existence" once more. Like before.

For most of human history, little people lived a life in economical misery. The clergy stepped in, promessing "eternal live" in some paradise as long as they followed the instructions of the clergy and making them believe that their miserable life on earth is only some "test run" for paradise.
Actually, in those days of absolute misery, suicide rates were extremely high, causing the clergy to qualify suicide as a deadly sin, closing the doors to paradise forever. A good way to keep "the sheep" under control while enduring their earthly misery, hoping for paradise.

Relax folks. Bevore we were non existant, we will return to the same state of "non existance" again. Very comforting, I find.

Here is a guy with little "social skills", preferring not to leave the house, embracing his computer instead, taking his clues from his Tik Tok, Hock Pock, Mutt Muck community, claiming that todays Chinese would rather live in the age of Konfuzius. To make it worse: He is denying recent Chinese history. Romantisising a 2000 year old history that consisted of nothing else than never ending misery for "the little people of China".
To claim, that I "know nothing" I will certainly not take as a personal insult. Most people will realise that you are the one that "knows nothing" within this context.

PS: In your "haydays", you amassed quite a few clicks whenever you had something to say here. As you know your "clicks" have become "deflationary".

Have you ever wondered what the reason for this phenomenon could be?

The greatest tragedy in life is not death, it's rather what dies along the way (icluding body parts!).

And here you go again....

Well, as a start, the fear of death is mainly about dying in a non-familiar way.

Dying in road accidents here, as a matter of fact, is very familiar..

And dying in a plane crash, is not....

Not sure what Einstein would thing about this...

And as God as created psychopaths, there will always be some people enjoying the death of people, even after having contributed to the situation.

Not sure how AI would react to that....

A rather Gnostic outlook I can get behind!

We live on a loosh farm.

There may be escape at death, in the form of total oblivion or, avoiding the reincarnation trick.

Back to the original question I nominate fear of Antifa as more irrational.

Just as automobile parts, they do not fail all at once, but one at a time.
