Thais pushing back on Koh Phangan

Featured Replies

This thread is specifically about the growing concerns AMONGST THE THAI PEOPLE about Israelis (not Jews in general) taking over large parts of Koh Phangan including approximately 90% of the businesses in Haad Rin which for decades has been a big drawcard for backpackers from all around the world, employing cheaper Burmese labour who will not speak out and other problems this are causing on the island.

So please no playing the antisemitism card and just stay on topic which is how the Thais feel about this and the affects it is having on them and how it might affect other foreigners with increased scrutiny on Thai nominee companies which may affect many members of this forum personally.

Please watch the video before commenting and stay on topic. Increasing numbers of Thai are getting increasingly angry about the situation.

This is not a thread about the Gaza genocide, Israelis taking over Cyprus, India, Philippines etc.

It is a problem and will have a ripple affect across all of Thailand.

The only question IMO is wether these settlements are legal or not. That's up to the Thai authorities. Would be easy to retaliate against a ban on Israeli visitors: expel all Thai workers from Israel...

Now what credibility does this guy have, is he an Arab or a German? But anyhow, his Islamic extremism transpires profusely.

Seems a natural phenomenon to get ghettos of nationalities, they prefer to be together, in Pattaya, farang in Buakhao, Indians 2nd road, etc

I don’t see the Thai government getting involved with the Indians in 2nd road or the Farangs in Buakao.

And I have never seen tens of thousands of Thais blowing back against these groups on social media.

It could change though the way it is going in Koh Phangan and Pai.

when number of expats exceeds locals, maybe it starts to become an issue. pattaya is still predominantly thai, i'm guessing.

actually recently met a girl working in ko phangan. her employer is isreali, but she didn't complain about the situation there. maybe she is happy just having a decent job.

Nonsense, nothing Islamic extremism in the vid.
The video is anti-Israeli however, seems far fetched to me. But I haven't been there in years, so really can't comment on the situation on the island. I do know though, that if the Thai that traditionally run the place are fed up with it, they won't show it via a video, but will use other means, especially police and immigration.

The local Thais are envy to see how others, foreigners, are doing very well where they could have done if only they had the initiative and the foresights to start business that make money, Yes, many foreigners took advantage of the business opportunity vacuum that was there, and that didn't go well with the locals to see how others doing well while they could only be the proxies and nominees.

No, I think he mentions in the video that he has recently converted to Islam.

I'm not sure I understood correctly though.

He is comparing the situation in Ko Phangan to Gaza. This does appear to be a biased rant from an Islamic person.

Perhaps not the most objective person to listen to.

I watched the video in full. IMHO, it would carry more weight if the video wasn't presented by a Muslim...

But putting that aside, I lived on Koh Phangan a few years ago, then went back again after teaching in Myanmar.  This more recent occasion, I gave up trying to rent a property on the island. Property rental prices had tripled and the island was basically a building site!

As far as David's Circle is concerned, I would say "Don't bring your problems to Thailand - solve your problems in your own country"

As always, the so-called “problem” of Israelis in Thailand is being blown out of proportion either by Muslims (video’s author)  or by antisemites (MalcolmB). Hypocritical creatures pretending to be deeply concerned about the Thai people, while in reality driven by their dark motives.

Funny how this newly converted hypocrite prefers to live in Thailand and not in Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan.  And from here, he goes on to advise the tolerant Thais to expel all Israelis.

Hence all the arrests in the last two months.

Thais complain about the behaviour of Chinese......no problem.

Thais complain about the behaviour of Indians......no problem.

Thais complain about the behaviour of Russians.........no problem.

Thais complain about the behaviour of any specific European nationality and the others, plus US, Australians and Kiwis, will join in.........no problem.

Thais complain abot the behaviour of Israelis?..........**** me no!!!......you can't do that!!!.

Thais haven't a clue about the history of Jewish unpopularity in The West and don't care.......they just know that the Israelis are pissing them off.

You are the hypocrite.....take your persecution card and **** off.

You have no idea.
You are just believing what you want to believe which isn’t the reality.
Do a google search in Thai about Israelis in Koh Phangan.

Then get back to me.

That's totally irrelevant here, the Thais will decide who must go or not. Even though pressure can be applied..

I don’t think the Thais will worry about not being PC.

Latest from the embassy.

Thais do complain about all nationalities — that’s perfectly normal. The problem is that recently, several outside interest groups have been deliberately blowing the “Israeli problem” out of proportion. This thread is a typical example of ongoing anti-Israeli propaganda: a self-proclaimed antisemite sharing a video made by a Muslim fanatic. Both non-Thais.

But then, none of those populations are actively barring locals or law enforcement.

pointing out an established pattern is irrelevant?

It is completely relevant, and yes, it is up to Thailand to decide how to react.

it was bound to happen. Not just in Koh Pangan. Samui also. Young soldiers coming back from killing people both young and old, and seeing the horrors of war. Looking to hit a beach with nightlife to unwind. Israelis, Russians, Ukrainians. There will be a lot of them here already, or coming soon. as the numbers get bigger, then the problems will really start.

He definitely has an agenda, but it's transparent.

As for the Chabad centers are definitely under scrutiny for their access policies. They seem to believe they have some sort of consular privilege.

Restrained? Especially the title of the video.

Thais with short memory as how many of them are working in Israel now earning good money and respect,

they forgot so quickly how Israel fought and risked death and losses for 2 years to Bering their fallen comrade's home when no one, but no one in Thailand even talked about their brothers being tortured and starved to death and kill in Hamas hands,

Not one word of Thank you or gratitude and then they go after Israelis as if they're their sworn enemies.

ungrateful behavior.

The title was a quote from Thai comments posted by Thais.

Here is a thousand more for you to read if you are capable.

You were claiming a couple of days ago there were no peace marches for Palestinians in Thailand also.
Which was completely false. I am not saying you are lying, it is just you don’t have a clue about what is in the Thai news.

You really need to broaden your news sources before making stuff up.

wow, those comments are an eye opener, NGL
Seems the Israelis are not exactly winning the "hearts and minds" of the Thais
