Well ... financial reasons ? Girlfriend reasons ? Visa reasons ?

Work reasons ?

Do English teachers go to Cambodia?

Who knows?

Why did you choose Cambodia,do you love it ,do you hate it ?

Do you have a history interest ?

Do you like Phomn Penh or Siem reap ?

What about Sihanoukville, use to be popular never hear much of it now

Or what the "new" kep.... something?

Upside: Cambodia offers 1 year retirement extensions for ~$350 (about the same as an agent-extension in Pattaya), with no "bank money seasoning" or similar BS, and these include multiple-entry - though, must be 55, vs 50 in Thailand.  If younger, it's a bit more for a 1 year extension.  In general, they are happy you spend your money into their economy, instead of somewhere else.

Contrast to Thai immigration only care they get a cut of your money, and could not care less about the billions in lost revenue, which their extortion/abuse of expats has caused their countrymen's lives / businesses.  Many I spoke to there (and around the world) left Thailand specifically because of immigration abuse/corruption.

Yes, plenty of English teachers in Cambodia, and native-speakers don't need "waivers" or such for not having a "degree in English."

Cost of Living is generally low - not dissimilar from Thailand - so, can live rich or cheap, depending on your budget and choices.

Downside: Phnom Penh traffic is a mess, and no public-transportation system to speak of.  They have a few "ok" malls, but nothing like Bangkok's.

Sihanoukville was wrecked by the Chinese laundering their money into building there - then covid and a change in gambling-regulations killed it mid-build, so the place is full of 1/2 finished buildings.  The beach is still nice, though  mostly empty.

Kep or "Kampot" is where many who previously lived in S-ville moved - where one would more likely find Western expats - as well as in Siem Reap, which has seen a lot of development.  Alas, no ocean near Siem Reap.

I would suggest expats living in Thailand at least familiarize themselves with Cambodia, so have a "Plan B" - as there is no way to predict their "one year-extension at a time" future, with the insanely-corrupt Thai immigration.

I used to think Cambodia was like the poor sister to Thailand but last time I went to SR I was amazed at how modern and clean the whole place was. And everyone spoke good English too. It was a huge contrast to my life in Thailand.

I used to like PP but things get pretty dark in some areas.

Went to Kep. Met a few old French hippies living there.

Lived in Kampong Cham for a while. Got boring very quickly.

Ahh Cambodia, used to love me some dirty weekends over the border... throw some cash away at the casino's then head to the chicken farm in snookyville for some drunken debauchery.

Cambodia sucks in almost every possible way compared to Thailand except 1: visum in case you are below 50, and 2: ancher beer, which is the best pilsner in the world.

since you are over 50 and drink vine, -dont go there

The casino's and the chicken farm are part of cambodia history and culture.

I can only imagine it

He was held down and they had turns on him

You are not doing yourself any favours here Georgie boy. You are sounding even more jealous than you did in your post I referenced.

Above sounds like a script you have cobbled together for your next gay movie.

I'm going to have to ask this thread to  be closed sadly

We were having a intellectual conversation about the history, arts and cuisine of Cambodia only for imbeciles to come into the thread about chickens

I was discussing a serious YouTube video where an Australian man was arrested and had a distressing  ordeal

Again the academics on here,  artists and historians among us  cannot discuss intellectual conversation without being derailed

I will look at the various articles posted regarding this abomination. It clearly did happen so I will give it the attention it deserves. There doesn't seem to be much being reported that makes Cambodia look like an attractive proposition compared to Thailand. I'm sure others will have a much different opinion.

What a staggering coincidence. That's exactly the same way I react to every single one of the 100,000+ posts you've made on this forum to date. But at least you've got consistency going for you. I'll give you that!

So now we’ve got Susan here doing some deep research to see if he can score a date with the local Cambodian prison population.

No desire to ever step foot in that country.

Never been. Read about and seen too many documentaries on grinding poverty, junkies and pedos.

The only reason to choose Cams over Thailand is the 'easy' visa for the 55 plusers.

In every other way possible it cannot hold a candle.

Cost of living is more than TH when all tallied up.

Housing quality is not nearly as good value as TH.

It is not safer.

It is not cleaner.

Local food is not better than Thai food.

S'Ville was absolutely ruined ... now shells of buildings just sit there, eyesores.

Kampot is overrun with 24/7 drunk expats with big beer bellies.

P'Penh traffic so bad you're better off walking  (but there are no walkable pavements)

Siem Reap might be liveable if you can stomach the Chinese package tour coach loads...

Interesting,is that because they use the US dollar ?

Does anyone else feel it's more expensive say than Thailand in terms of rentals , groceries etc ?
