Police in Buriram have detained a man who violently assaulted his wife and children inside a KFC restaurant, after a video of the attack went viral and prompted widespread outrage. The incident occurred at a petrol station branch in Mueang district, where shocked customers witnessed the man continuing to attack his wife until she lost consciousness. Authorities have charged the husband under assault and domestic violence laws following demands for strict legal action.

The confrontation took place on October 31 and was captured in a three-minute clip shared widely online. The footage showed the man repeatedly striking his wife and two children inside the restaurant despite numerous bystanders. Public reaction was swift, with many calling on police and social services to intervene urgently to protect the victims and address domestic violence issues.

On November 1, Pol. Col. Jamras Siriliang, superintendent of Mueang Buriram Police Station, summoned the husband, wife, and their two children for questioning and mediation. The 51-year-old victim, identified only as Ms A, told police she wished to separate permanently, saying, “I want to live apart and take care of our two children. I want to run a food stall to support them. Please don’t come near our family again.”

The husband, named as Mr Keng, broke down in tears at the police station, admitting he was drunk and acted out of anger. He apologised, claiming he had been drinking beer and lost control. His mother-in-law, a 72-year-old woman referred to as Ms B, said she was heartbroken after watching the video, revealing this was not the first incident. She said her daughter’s collarbone had been broken in a previous assault and demanded a complete separation, saying she had already removed his belongings from the family home.

Police confirmed that the wife wanted the case pursued to the fullest extent of the law. Mr Keng was tested for drugs, but the results were negative. He was charged with “assaulting another person”, under the Domestic Violence Act and has been taken into custody pending further legal proceedings.

1: the beer they sell these days is far from the old Chang they sold 15 ears ago, you simply cant loose control by drinking it.

2: it was obvious that he had attacked her before.

3: lock him up for a few years.

Sure, that will do the trick. Thailand's domestic violence act is widely known to be very hard against abusers.

But why did the other KFC customers not do anything to stop it   😡

Because people would rather video it and put it on their social media pages so they can get more followers.

What a sad world we are living in.
