I used to live and work in London (25 years), it was never particularly safe IMHO (1980s to 2001). You wouldn't dare drive by Kings Cross STN at night without your windows up and your doors locked. Windows open, drug dealers at light would try to press packets of drugs on you, doors unlocked hookers would try and sit in the passenger seat.
