By passing a clean CR, Democrats lose leverage and their ability to force Republicans to negotiate on healthcare.

 

Snap has a rainy day account with like 5 billion in it for this very occasion that Trump won't let them use (his leverage), and also the Dems have tried to pass funding for just snap to last them through the shutdown and the Republicans have blocked it.

 

People don't have to starve during a gov shutdown. The shutdown is not the cause of a person's loss of food stamps. It is the GOP and Trump's blocking of the emergency funds that is causing it.

The democrats are refusing to vote on the funding bill unless the GOP makes some concessions, one of which is to extend medical subsidies. The GOP is trying to blame democrats for food stamps running out, saying the Dems don’t care about people starving.

 

It's the GOP's leverage. If they can blame the Dems for people going hungry, then people will start putting pressure on the Dems to give in to the bill that will unnecessarily change the cost of Americans healthcare.
