A foreign tourist was arrested on Pattaya Beach after alarming visitors while carrying a knife and scissors, according to police. The incident prompted a swift response from Pattaya city officials and local law enforcement after reports of erratic behaviour in a busy area of the beach. The man’s actions caused concern among residents and holidaymakers, who were left unsettled by the disturbance.

Police arrived at the scene and found the man visibly agitated near an umbrella seating area. Upon searching his belongings, officers discovered the reported knife and a pair of scissors, raising immediate safety concerns, following his reported behaviour. Authorities confirmed the man was taken into custody without incident and transported to Pattaya Police Station, where he will face legal action. His identity and nationality have not yet been released.

A Pattaya police spokesperson stated, “Incidents like these are handled swiftly to protect both locals and visitors. We will not tolerate behaviour that disrupts public peace or endangers others.” The quick intervention was intended to reassure the public and prevent further alarm.

The city administration also took the opportunity to remind residents and tourists that suspicious or threatening activity can be reported to the Pattaya City Hotline at 1337, which operates 24 hours a day and offers support in multiple languages. The initiative forms part of the city’s ongoing commitment to ensuring a secure environment for visitors as tourist arrivals increase ahead of the high season.

Although violent incidents involving tourists remain rare, local police have stepped up patrols across Pattaya’s beachfront to strengthen public confidence and improve rapid response times. Authorities are also investigating whether the man’s behaviour may be linked to mental health issues. Further charges could be considered pending the outcome of psychological assessments and background checks. The man remains in custody as police continue their investigation. The case has underscored the need for vigilance and swift enforcement.

Peterborough Plod could perhaps go to Pattaya Plod for some tips?

I know one thing thai police will do what ever to protect a area. or people.anyone will come off 2nd best

Erratic behaviour? By that token most of the tourists I see are ripe for the "bag search" picking. Mind you, Hua Hin is a hotbed of lascivious and wanton bintabaht behaviour. Ha Ha Ha

Maybe he'd read previous reports about beach road and thought he should take precautions against those offering certain services.

Why would the scissors be of concern, come-on, we've all got a pair.

my wife keeps telling me to get a pair

Sometimes it's a foreigner, sometimes it's an Israeli, or Russian or some undisclosed country?

Suspects nationality isn't stated in the article.

They barely report < 5% of what really happens on a daily basis.

Well done Thai police.

Maybe they could go to train UK police on how to deal with knife wielding maniacs BEFORE they hack up the public?

Another dangerous idiot in Pattaya and another reason why we are staying far away from Pattaya this vacation.

Pottyaya has enough problems trying to attract tourists already. This incident along with the those reported on here recently involving different ethnic groups only serve to further damage it’s image for visitors.

Some of us come here for that. On my first visit I saw a German get his finger cut off by a Thai urchin on Beach Rd. I've been hooked ever since.  Pattaya has become too predictable for my liking.

I hope not, at least not in a family location like Pattaya

Good luck in your struggle to become an adult.

Pair of what?

Nutjobs everywhere now and many of them are hiding in plain site like your taxi/bus driver, shop keeper, student, cop, soldier, illegals, drifters, to all sorts.

Little wonder everyone is so disconnected when there are such fragile nutters with hair-trigger egos everywhere now that take almost nothing to just pop.

It just amazes me how many lowlife foreigners there are that either visit or live in Thailand.  What is the magnet?
