Continually-Failing Grommets of my Shower Curtains. Why?

Featured Replies

Continually-Failing Grommets of my locally-purchased Shower Curtains. Why?

Dear Folks,

Back in the day, say around the 1950s, and especially in the year 1960, we never experienced grommet-related problems with our shower curtains.

Sure, particularly in the year 1960, we had other serious problems with shower curtains, but not the problem of FAILING GROMMETS.

So, what to do?

Is it even POSSIBLE, today, to buy, off Lazada, some premium polymer shower curtains with grommets that stand the test of time?

It’s easy to tell the difference, once one has the shower curtain in hand.  There is a totally different feel to it.

What to look for, and how to buy?

I am sure, Hitchcock knew a good quality shower curtain, as well as the next guy. He was probably an EXPERT, in fact.  And, YES, I have actually gone back to this great video which does shed a bit of light on this subject, concerning what type of shower-curtain, and what type of grommets, were used in the shooting of his magnificent film…as you can see here:

image.png.a33ae516f394a9ae7f493989460d7560.png

I really hate spending money on shower curtains that do not hold up to normal showering.

Any help with this will be much appreciated.

I am about to buy, once again, and so I feel the need for more info.

Best regards,

Happy Showering….

GammaRays

Note: I like white when I am showering.  Yellow, for me, is always the wrong color, even though I do know that some showerers are partial to the color yellow.

Thanks, again.

Final-Final-Note:  Perhaps some antibacterial impregnation into the shower-curtain material might be advantageous in order to completely reduce mold build-up in such an occasionally humid environment.  My shower is very dry, most of the time, due to the fact that I run my ACs 24/7/365…as some here might already know.

You know, guys, I just really hope I am not forced to import a shower-curtain from the USA, in order to get one with grommets that will stand up to my showering, for a reasonable period of time.  So, I need help….OBVIOUSLY…..

The Hitchcockian Shower-Scene shower curtain is the one I want.  Perfect color, and also beautifully translucent, and white, with none of that UGLY floral garbage in garish colors.  Keep it simple, simple neutral color, and your shower-room will look the way it should.

just put your shower curtain in the washing machine periodically to prevent fungal growths.

😔

It is a well known fact that Bosco's chocolate sauce attacks and destroys shower curtain grommets.

Stop using it in the shower!!

Alternatively, buy at least half decent shower curtains.

Who said ANYTHING about buying "half-decent"...ANYTHING?

I always buy the BEST....

But, how to buy the best here?

THIS, is my question.

Please Note:  I can tell you that when many numbnuts were walking around listening to early WALKMANS,,,,,

I was the dude carrying around, on my shoulder, the Nakamichi 550.....!!!!

This is NO JOKE.....

When I rolled up on the shores of Taiwan, in 1979, I was sporting this baby......

image.png.3c7477e2c747e34ec66ec0023b78af46.png

One of the greatest sorrows of my life was to have it stolen out of my house, someplace near NeiHu, Taipei, Taiwan.

I have yet to recover from this loss.

So, you see, I always buy the best.

And, I appreciate having bought the best, every day of my life.

This includes buying my education, throughout my early years.

I always bought the best.

Or, for that matter:  When I first came to Taiwan, I bought the Nikon F2AS, and without lenses.

That, too, was stolen in Taiwan.

The SAME goes for Shower Curtains:

I will always buy the best, when I can actually find it, locally, but.....can I...????

What?

You want me to show you the sorry state of my grommets, at the moment?

You want a photo of my grommets...????

This is a very good idea.

However, before doing so, one needs to verify one thing:

Did one actually purchase a shower-curtain made from a material, a polymer, which might be dishwasher safe???

Many polymers are NOT dishwasher safe, as you probably know.

NOT the dishwasher.... too hot!  Laundry machine with cold (perhaps warm) water and soap.

You are suggesting that i....

MAKE MY OWN SHOWER CURTAIN?

For sure, I could easily accept this, quite good, solution.

Should be quite easy, in fact.....

GOOD SOLUTION, I would say.... (not joking, either, as usual....)....

No...

Really...

GOOD SOLUTION.

Tks.

Problem identified !

Washing shower curtains in a dish washer  negates the warranty.......and the grommets fail !

OK.

Thanks for your clarification.

I missed that ...... point.

I have had the same shower curtain for nearly 10 years.

cleaner takes it down regularly to give it a good scrub and make sure there is no mildew on the bottom, its fine

For some strange reason....

Almost, in ever case, and almost every time I post a topic on TV.....

You guys seem to mistakenly come to the conclusion that I am....somehow....

BLOWING SMOKE....

But....I am NOT.

I only post Topics about REAL and IMPORTANT issues, issues that I experience, personally, here in Thailand.

Here is a good case in point, documented by this tell-all photo of my grommets:

image.png.bf251c7dfd73682cfc95577777e105de.png

As you can plainly see, I have patched the grommets, repeatedly, with tape, and yet they continue to fail.

I love a good shower, and a good experience in the shower.

These lousy grommets continue to DEGRADE my shower experience.

Also, my shower experience, taken twice daily, is my single opportunity to do my BEST thinking, during the day, every day.

So, this TOPIC is important to me.

Really:  These lousy shower grommets, and the general lack of quality here, concerning shower curtains available, locally, is ...

GETTING ME DOWN....Big Time....

By the way, Guys.....

UNLESS I find a better solution, here on TV, .....

I have decided to make my LAST AND FINAL Purchase of a Shower Curtain.....

image.png.3e54be7187be68f26b770c8d62e8288a.png

Never again will I pay money for FLIMSY shower curtains....

ALSO:  There is really NOTHING wrong with using a much heavier gauge curtain, one suitable for a MEAT freezer.

IMHO, this is the way to go, for me, and it won't cost much, either.....

There could be many advantages, too.....

============

ALSO, those lousy PLASTIC rings, holding up most local shower curtains...are.....

AN ABOMINATION.

I hate this plastic garbage world in which I find myself.

I want BEAUTY.....not.......UGLINESS.....

==========

If we look at the film, PSYCHO, then we see BEAUTY.....in the shower......

And, truly, SHE was a BEAUTY.....

Unfortunately your posted pic does nothing identifiable to me in explanation of your issue.

Perhaps the real problem is that you try to dual function the curtain as a stability device ?

Some strategically mounted hand rails might be In order?

Concession to the inevitable impact of old age is no cause for embarrassment.

Consider it a marker of success in relative longevity ?

I have already considered this important addition.

Thank you for your kind concern.

Garbage IS as Garbage DOES.....

Form follows Function.

The design of these lousy shower-curtains, being sold locally...

Guarantees Failure.

Better to build a shower-curtain, oneself, ....maybe....

I will choose stainless steel grommets....

I think I will use:

GRADE 316 stainless steel for almost everything, meaning all fasteners and grommets.

Difficult to go wrong with GRADE 316 stainless steel.....

image.png.0b9d6c30e34c22237b3f2d99ce93d08e.png

But, I think these might not be made of 316 steel, which is more expensive.

So, let's be wary of being fooled by lesser steel grommets.

THESE are better, by far:

You say you always buy the best , why bother with a shower curtain ?

Of COURSE....this solution is the very best, as you accurately point out.

There is one problem in doing so, for me, at least.

I do not own this house.

Installing a glass shower is worth the money, if one owns the house.

Also, I guess you recall.....

I think that it was VP Cheney that had a wonderful shower installed for him, at gov-expense, complete with 15 high-powered NOZZLES....(shower heads)...

I would do the same as he, if I were a VP.

Most certainly, something like that must be discussed in the "Property & Finance" sub forum.

I hear you , rented house .

The 160 x 190 glass only costed 3000 B and some change for the AL profile.

Even for a rented house, Bt.3000.00 would be worth the money spent.

(If only to rid oneself of the need for grommets....)

I already stated that I have a glass shower separation.

But I remember from other showers when you move around to wash

you touch the wet plastic curtain and it sometimes sticks to you.

I have a 1,10 x 2,30 cm shower , so bigger than the one in your caravan that you are pulling with your transam.
