A 24-year-old Indian tourist, Kirubakaran Sankar, reported the theft of his gold necklace, valued at over 70,000 baht, while on Pattaya Beach in Thailand. The incident occurred on Saturday, November 8, around 11.30pm, when two individuals identified as ladyboys approached him, posing as friendly acquaintances before fleeing with the necklace. The theft happened close to the Tourist Police Centre, accentuating concerns over safety in the area.

Sankar, having just arrived in Pattaya, was spending his evening near the beach when approached by the duo. They greeted him, attempted to hug him, and offered sexual services, which he declined. Moments later, the ladyboys vanished, and Sankar realized his necklace was missing. He tried to pursue them but was unable to catch up due to the crowd, leading him to inform the Pattaya City Police immediately.

The police, aware of similar tactics employed by thieves in the area, commenced an investigation led by Lieutenant Phu Pha Hongyakun. Officers are currently examining CCTV footage to identify and locate the suspects. The method utilized in this crime is part of a recognized pattern where individuals posing as friendly companions distract victims to pilfer valuables under the guise of physical affection.

Despite a substantial police presence, including a nearby Tourist Police Centre, such incidents remain a persistent issue in Pattaya, particularly along its busy beachfront and nightlife districts. Authorities continue to advise tourists to be vigilant and wary of unfamiliar individuals who attempt to engage closely, especially during late hours.

Police officials emphasize the importance of heightened awareness and have reiterated their commitment to bringing the culprits to justice while working to safeguard the city's reputation as a tourist destination.

Key Takeaways

  • An Indian tourist in Pattaya was robbed of a gold necklace by ladyboys.
  • Thefts using distraction tactics remain a challenge for local police.
  • Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the suspects.

Oh, for the love of god!

These Indian travel insurance companies need to add a Ladyboy clause into the fine print.

Over the last couple years I've found myself encountering more Indians on social media and interacting with the rest of us. These are some of the most arrogant and nationalistic people I've ever come across. They have zero shame about the dire state of their own country and show a real entitlement.

Having these people now strutting into the Thailand trying to impress everyone with their gold necklaces is exactly what I would expect from them and not welcome at all. Let's see if they wise up before the ladyboys get the best of them.

Indians are unlikely to insure their jewellery, especially low value items. And  no, 70,000 baht isn't high value. Once the discounting for the low class Indian self inflation and the value is even less.

Seems a bit of a theme us whitey farangs having a laugh about how stupid these Indians are losing a gold chain.

I was speaking to a group of Indians last week and they were having a laugh at us stupid whitey farang marrying Thai women and losing a lot more than a gold chain.

Who is dumber?
I don’t know.

GPD per capital in India is 87,000 baht per year.

Who has ever seen an Indian wearing a gold chain around Pattaya? I never have.

Some parts of Indian culture tends to be such that they wear their worth,  Not the safest thing to do when traveling.

In my Thailand trips  have been approached by a few lady boy grab distract attempts.  Heck one morning about 3 Am I was walking on the sidewalk on second road heading north.  It was one of the old low seasons and  very little vehicle traffic.  Wouldn't you know a ladyboy on a scooter heading south saw me, made a U turn in the middle of the road, headed north, parked the scooter right in front of me and tried the steal,

yeah.  I agree.  I believe the majority of Indians there are NOT from a high wealth position.

Really? Where exactly on your social media spectrum are these alleged south Asian interlopers suddenly popping up, apparently uninvited and unwanted?

Yes, in the same way that the @NorthernRyland's that walk amongst us aren't from the top-end of the farang squatter demographic.

Well you better get used to them, plenty more where they came from and you won't only find them in Pattaya!

I often wonder how the ladyboys manage to remove these necklaces so easily? Are they easily removed or do they get cut?

Yeah right I'm never going to get used to them because I'll be moving well before it reaches that point. Even seeing one Indian a week for me is critical but I have low tolerance for them.

There's a desk in the police station dedicated solely for the reporting of this crime.  The queue stretches round the block.

Another theft or insurance scam?

Another gold chain robbery insurance scam I’m guessing. When are they gonna come up with something new?

Why always the same people involved ? It's either happening daily or it's a scam which all Indians tell each other to do when in Thailand so they get their holiday for free once the insurance company pays out for jewellery that was never stolen 🙄

People have skills. That how pickpockets part you from your possessions.
ive seen wristwatches removed unnoticed, and a ladyboy hugging you is going to be a little bit disorienting while their hands are in the right plac
