FYI follow on:  My round trip  Premium Economy ticket from LAX to BKK  and back to LAX cost $2,500 USD.  I first flew these types of flights back around 2010 through 2019 and the prices used to range from 1,500 to 1,700.

But............Airfares have " Gone through the Roof " in those past 6 Years M8....Do You Think that the price stays the Same ??.

I just wanted to choose a seat furthest away from those seats  , just in case

  • Not telling you.....everyone will start booking them.

  • Even if you have a favourite seat buried in the small print is  airplane seat bookings are subject to change due to operational, safety, or security reasons, even after you have paid for a specif

They still are going through the roof. In May this year I paid 78.000 baht for a business ticket with Qatar. The same flight in May next year is quoted 109.000

With Eva Air you can choose your seat at no cost within 48 hours of your flight. I prefer an aisle seat and have found that there is usually a fair selection still going if I select 48 hours before.

That seems to be changing with many airlines now.  Quite often the lowest "super saver" fares or whatever they call it don't include seat selection, and the system will almost always automatically put you in a middle seat.  With a recent EVA ticket I think I had to select the next fare up to get seat selection included.  Not sure if they are doing that will all flights or just some.

That still sounds like a pretty good deal to me for Premium Economy.   I don't think I can get it that cheap from Vancouver on EVA.

So you ARE a troll, firstly telling me how I should travel, next denying economy tickets aren't increasing in price

Same with Emirate, choose your seats for free when doing online check in.

Personally, a G&T and a couple of reds with dinner sorts it out for me...Zzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Stop whinging get on the flight and fly, what's the problem it's 24hrs of torture however or with ever you fly.

it would be nice to get a full 9-10 hours sleep instead of having to stop off half way (when laying flat).

One reason I avoid the Gulf carriers.

Eva Air has lost a lot of my business owing to have to show the credit card the flight was booked with. When my wife travels alone I have to send her on China Airlines because they use 'pay pal' but other than that I find them the best to fly with.

EVA has always required that since I first used them back in 2006.  But I thought they had some tedious way around that by getting a signed letter, or something like that.  It makes little sense to me why they do it.  What if one's credit card expired during a long stay or was lost or stolen?

Taipei airport used to be horrible. Few shops near the gates - almost nothing open at night. Did they build a new terminal within the last 10 years? EVA is a 3 star airline at best. China Airlines a bit better IMO - in any case, I won't fly via Taipei anymore, unless the air terminal has improved dramatically..

Eva is one of the easiest airlines to book a ticket....You guys are too damn privileged...Nothing worse than economy folks who expect first class service on an economy budget...Simple solution - book first class which won't happen for the most obvious reason..

Been flying Eva and CP over 20 years and never had an issue...two best value airlines (vs Mainland Chinese/Korean) over the Pacific though CP's pricing has not recovered competitively post COVID.

One can always book with EVA via phone and deal with a live voice to answer questions

People need to move on from a 1990's ticket pricing mindset...look at the price of gasoline

From a UK perspective...

EVA business class experience is preferable to Qatar ime, save for the bar on the Qatar A380 and the fact EVA still use old 777-300ER's  (thankfully being replaced by A350 in next few years). Much nicer food and drink offerings on EVA. No way is it a 3* airline.

Also, Qatar's customer service left plenty to be desired when I tried to get my money back for Q-suite reservation which was null and void after they changed the aircraft type to 777-300ER, as reported they have a habit of doing earlier in the thread.

Nicest seat in business I tried is Gulf Air, more space and privacy compared to other 2. I would use them again but the connections weren't great anymore from UK to BKK and food/service was pretty average. Also, semi-chaotic experience in Bahrain though they have an OK lounge there.

Fair enough. Everyone has their own view. EVA probably does very well financially on the Bangkok stopovers from Europe. Can't imagine they'd fill the flights otherwise for travelers whose primary destination is just Taiwan.

Yeah...only EVA and Thai have direct flights from Heathrow to BKK. Lots of one stop options but I prefer to fly direct. EVA flights are always full ime.

British Airways fly direct from London Gatwick but I wouldn't use them long haul. Mediocre airline living off past glories. Think someone else is starting up a low cost direct to BKK from LGW as well.

Agree with you on Gulf Air. Flew them once and was really impressed. The seats and privacy are much better than Emirates - especially the window ones which are like a suite. I also thought the food was better than Emirates (I think that's Emirates' weak point, especially in business). More comfortable, more space, quieter.

However their lounges are not as good and the onboard service is not as good (although there was nothing to complain about). And no bar.

I still chose Emirates over Gulf due to status, the A380, and service. But Gulf is one of the best out there. Definitely would recommend it to anyone.

Norse Atlantic Airways already started.  Also from MAN starting next week.
