New car manufacture date?

Featured Replies

If i order a new car i would like it to be "fresh of the factory" so to say,Is there a max timeframe from when you ordering vs the manufacturing date? I wouldnt want a car thats been produced in January this year if order now in november..is there normally a clausule in the contract about this?

specify in the sales contract that you will only accept a car where the build date is no earlier than XXXXXX

As a former car salesman we used to love selling new old stock. A car could have been in stock for up to 3 years before it got sold. We would charge the latest current full retail price, even though it was bought in several price increases ago. Result; more profit!

Especially when it is an EV. You don't want years old batteries.

Why not ?

Brand new car is brand new car.

A number of Brands offer minor change updates from June onwards they will be both 2025 models but they will have different spec

Using online insurance quotes

Car built in December 2025 will have a lower capital value than a car built in January 2026 even if both cars have the same spec and the same price in the dealership

At the back end of the year you have a good chance of having a vehicle built that year but at the beginning of the year, you have practically zero chance of having a vehicle built that year.

Can depend on the manufacturer and model. If it's a "cookie cutter" model such as a Vios, Corrolla or CRV, HRV or Accord then it's likely stock and been sitting around waiting for a buyer for a period of time. If it's a Mercedes then often they are built to order, especially with certain options, colours etc. (unless you accept a stock model). I think anything up to 3 months since manufacture is reasonable if built in Thailand or Asia. If from Europe then and stock model could easily be 6 months since build. Have you asked the dealer about this? If so, what did they say?

Not in my experience. Mercedes have an internal spec document that they are happy to share if you ask. It shows specifications, order date, revision date and left factory date etc. Not sure if similar is available for other manufacturers or here in Thailand.

I believe the VIN shows the manufacture date, you would have to google how to decode it
